Civil/Structural Site Engineer (Kendal)

Job Description

PURPOSE OF ROLE Provide technical expertise and engineering support to the site team by validating and ratifying the design baseline during construction activities. This position is primarily technical (90%) with some supervisory responsibilities (10%), ensuring that construction activities align with design specifications and quality standards. The specific position is for a site based Civil / Structural Engineer or Technologist. The project involves bulk materials handling and large scale, pressurised water reticulation systems including pump stations, pump systems and water pipeline and distribution piping networks. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Technical Support and Design Validation Evaluate and assess impact on design baseline during construction Provide technical advice regarding design baselines and engineering quality Conduct technical inspections to ensure construction complies with design specifications Report non-conforming work to the Construction Manager Review and validate technical outputs Attend technical meetings with clients, contractors, and subcontractors Integration with other Engineering Disciplines (Mech, Elec, C&I) as and when required Manage changes during the construction phase, through the change management procudure Project Implementation Ensure readiness of essential design drawings for construction and commissioning Communicate design baseline changes to the Project Engineer Apply contract requirements for effective decision-making when design impacts occur Monitor work environment for safety hazards due to design discrepancies Review of construction related quality documents and construction related method statements Provide support during testing and commissioning phases Contribute to as-built documentation and punch list resolution Attend equipment inspections and FATs at supplier premisses, as required Technical Development Evaluate design baselines and conduct feasibility checks Develop or review technical specification and technical drawings when required Review and compile variation orders and cost estimates Identify technical risks and develop work breakdown structures Adjudicate supplier offers and provide technical input to project schedules Process Compliance and Leadership Adhere to engineering procedures and project management principles Interface with various functional groups (Procurement, Finance, SHEQ) Mentor Engineering-in-Training (EIT) staff and junior engineers Promote and support company values QUALIFICATION Bachelor's degree in civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university or University of Technology Registration with ECSA or recognized international engineering body (preferred) EXPERIENCE Minimum 3 years of design experience in heavy and/or power industries At least 1 year of experience in the Energy Market, Mining Sector or Materials Handling (preferred) At least 6 months construction site experience (required) KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS COMPETENCIES Knowledge Technical competence within the specific engineering discipline (Civil / Structural) Good understanding of relevant industries and their requirements Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and industry practices (SANS, , BS, EN etc.) Knowledge of the Project Life Cycle within and EPC / Turnkey project environment Basic knowledge on NEC ECC contracts Skills Computer literacy (MS Office and relevant engineering software) Project management software proficiency (Primavera or MS Project) Strong communication skills (written and verbal) High degree of analytical thinking Good leadership capabilities Strong administrative and organizational abilities Good problem-solving skills Behavioural Competencies Methodical and detail-oriented approach to work Ability to organize and effectively prioritize workload Team player with good interpersonal skills Effective conflict management abilities Adaptable and flexible in changing environments Emotional intelligence Should you not hear from us within 21 days of the closing of the advert, kindly regard your application to have been unsuccessful.
