Senior Accountant

Senior Accountant Location: New Haven parking is paid for Reports to: Controller About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of our organization by ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and strong internal controls. The Senior Accountant will work closely with leadership and various departments to support financial operations and provide insights for decision-making. Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper fiscal controls. Assist with accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll, investments, and tax reporting. Reconcile all bank accounts and manage cash flow. Oversee fixed assets and reconcile endowment and investment funds. Prepare financial reports and analysis for leadership review. Assist with the preparation of annual audit work papers and support external auditors. Provide training and ongoing support for accounting practices and software. Conduct internal audits to identify areas of improvement and implement corrective measures. Ensure compliance with accounting principles, company policies, and financial regulations. Serve as a liaison for credit card merchant accounts and third-party receivables. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in corporate accounting (for-profit or non-profit). Strong knowledge of general ledger systems and financial reporting. Experience with audits and working with external auditors. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with software conversions preferred. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments.
