Do work that matters The CIO for Technology team is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our new AI Powered Engineering function dedicated to working with Commonwealth Bank's global engineering community to use AI assisted tools and capabilities in ways that improve the engineering experience and productivity. Role responsibilities: Collaborate with the team to tackle complex technical problems, contributing to design and implementation to ensure quality engineering outcomes. Translate requirements into engineering solutions, assisting in breaking down work and creating clarity for team members. Experiment with emerging AI assisted engineering tools and capabilities, providing feedback and insights from real world testing. Deliver robust and reusable solutions that integrate seamlessly into other teams' workflows and products. Support a customer centric approach, doing work that aligns with user needs and the organisation's goals. Contribute to architectural discussions and propose improvements, role modelling standards and best practices. Actively participate in code reviews, maintain high quality code bases and assist in documentation for knowledge sharing. Work on cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment and addressing inter-dependencies. Provide guidance and support to junior engineers and squad members. We are interested in hearing from people who have: Extensive experience in designing and implementing scalable, maintainable, and reliable software solutions Working knowledge of AI/ML and Gen AI applications and how they can enhance software engineering processes to improve productivity Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, TypeScript or C#) and experience developing microservices architecture on cloud platforms (AWS & Azure) Commercial or side project experience in one or more of the following technologies or related technologies: Anthropic Claude, Llama, LiteLLM, Cursor, windsurf / Codeium, VO Vercel, Continue, Aider, Cline, Langchain, Langgraph, Hugging Face Strong technical leadership skills and ability to collaborate with stakeholders to solve business-critical problems Ability to provide technical direction to teams, reviewing designs and code to ensure best practices A growth mindset with a focus on continuous learning and improvement Proficiency in agile development methodologies and iterative experimentation from ideation to prototype to pilot to product Strong skills in working with large datasets including SQL-based data manipulation Expertise in full cycle engineering using modern DevSecOps practices, IaC and CI/CD tools Working with us Please include a cover letter with your application that highlights how your experience, through personal or work projects, aligns with the requirements of the role and demonstrates your proficiency in AI-powered engineering.
