Job Description

Key Responsibilities : Assist the Feedlot Manager in the daily operations of the feedlot, focusing on efficiency, productivity, and livestock welfare. Monitor the health and condition of livestock, conducting routine health checks, and administering treatments as required, in collaboration with the external veterinarian. Support commercial decision-making, including input on feedlot management, cost optimization, and health-related interventions. Contribute to feeding programs, animal husbandry practices, and operational strategies that improve the overall performance of the feedlot. Maintain detailed records on animal health, feed intake, and production metrics. Help identify and implement solutions to improve feedlot efficiency and reduce veterinary costs. Collaborate with the team on business and financial planning related to feedlot operations. Provide direct support to the Feedlot Manager in managing staff and ensuring adherence to animal welfare standards. Qualifications : Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) degree, obtained from Onderstepoort. Experience in veterinary practice (preferably in livestock or feedlot environments). Previous experience in feedlot operations, animal care, or farm management is highly desirable, though not essential. Strong understanding of livestock health, disease prevention, and veterinary care procedures. Solid decision-making skills, with a keen interest in the commercial and operational aspects of feedlot management. Ability to work collaboratively with the Feedlot Manager and other team members. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Must be comfortable with hands-on management of livestock and farm operations.
