Job Description
Job Title: Respiratory Therapist II Profession: Respiratory Therapist Specialty: Therapeutic Treatment Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM Experience: 0-2 years clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care License: Registered Respiratory Therapist Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Must-Have: Neonatal level III/Women's Center experience required. Description: The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The role involves delivering patient care in complex, multiple-problem patient care situations, primarily in critical care areas, with protocol ventilator management. Significant independent decision-making and self-direction are required. In addition to patient care delivery, the therapist is responsible for patient, family, and support system education. Coordination of activities, staff development, and professional and self-developmental activities are part of the role. The therapist provides patient care with an understanding and awareness of population-specific needs. Biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs are addressed during care. Participates in the education of new employees and others. Completion of patient care, documentation, and education is essential. A team approach to service is encouraged, promoting a team spirit and positive work environment. Supports students and staff in a positive environment. Performs patient assessment and assessment for therapy. Collaborates with healthcare team members in planning patient care. Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy. Performs ventilator management, weaning, wave form graphic interpretation, and airway management, including intubation, extubation, trach tube change, and care. Conducts arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educates patients and mentors/precepts new employees, students, and peers. Assists in invasive and non-invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Promotes current and accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging. Advocates high levels of patient safety, including medication safety. Promotes performance improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. Encourages evidence-based practice. Reviews revised and new policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all relevant policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
