Job Description

Key Responsibilities: Student Support: Work directly with students who exhibit challenging behaviours, providing one-to-one mentoring and small group interventions. Identify triggers for negative behaviour and develop strategies to address them. Act as a role model, promoting positive attitudes and behaviours. Support students in developing self-regulation, resilience, and coping strategies. Behaviour Management: Implement behaviour improvement plans and track student progress. Monitor and de-escalate situations involving challenging behaviour. Promote and enforce the school’s behaviour policy consistently. Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and parents to create a supportive network for students. Liaise with external agencies (e.g., counselling services, educational psychologists) as required. Provide feedback and progress reports to staff and parents on students’ development. Classroom Support: Assist teaching staff in maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment. Support students with reintegration into lessons after incidents of challenging behaviour. Development and Training: Participate in training sessions to enhance skills in behaviour management and mentoring. Stay informed of best practices in student support and behaviour mentoring. Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of mentoring sessions and behavioural incidents. Contribute to reports for internal use and external agencies when needed. Key Skills and Attributes: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with students. Resilience, patience, and a calm approach to challenging situations. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with discretion. Proactive problem-solving skills and a solution-focused attitude. Familiarity with safeguarding and child protection procedures. Qualifications and Experience: Essential: GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths. Experience working with young people in an educational or youth work setting. Desirable: Training in behaviour management or mentoring. Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, or youth work
