Job Description: Quantity Surveyor – Major Project (Taunton Region) Overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join an award-winning Tier 1 building contractor working on a major project in the Taunton region. Reporting to the Lead Quantity Surveyor, the successful candidate will play a key role in delivering the commercial success of this prestigious development. Key Responsibilities Assist the Lead Quantity Surveyor in managing the project’s commercial performance. Prepare, manage, and monitor cost plans, ensuring cost control and value engineering are effectively implemented. Oversee subcontractor and supplier procurement, including tendering, negotiation, and contract administration. Assess and process valuations, variations, and final accounts. Provide regular cost and value reporting to the Lead Quantity Surveyor and project stakeholders. Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company policies, and procedures. Support risk management processes to mitigate project risks and maximize opportunities. Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers. Contribute to the development of junior team members, providing mentorship and guidance as needed. Requirements Tier 1 experience working on large-scale construction projects is essential. Proven track record of delivering projects with values exceeding £10 million. Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying or a related field (e.g., RICS accredited degree). Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract, including NEC and JCT. Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills. Proficiency in cost management software and MS Office applications. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships. A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving and team engagement.
