Job Description

The Onboarding & Internal Movements team works closely with business areas within the AEC to offer guidance and support for new employee onboarding, internal staff movements, contract management, ticket creation, job circumstance changes, and the initiation of police checks. In this role, you will be part of a high performing, driven and collaborative team, committed to deliver high-quality services and outcomes that supports the AEC in its day-to-day onboarding activities. You will also have the opportunity to engage with stakeholders at all levels in the agency and contribute towards agency-wide projects, while proactively engaging with system improvements and legislative changes. As the Onboarding Team Lead you will be supporting the Assistant Director, Onboarding in the day-to-day management of matters relating to onboarding APS staff, within the Employee Relations and Operations Section of the People Branch. The key duties of the position include: In this role, you will be responsible for the supervision of a highly motivated team in the management of BAU and surge onboarding operations. You will also contribute to the development and implementation of multiple projects to support the modernisation of onboarding functions, coordinating team members and enabling areas for the enhancement of practices and procedures. Key position responsibilities: Provide advice, guidance, and support on complex and sensitive matters related to onboarding and employee movements. Ensuring compliance with the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth), the Public Service Regulations 2023 (Cth), and the Australian Public Service Commissioner’s Directions 2022 (Cth). Supervise a team focusing on delivering outstanding results while developing team members, enhancing skills, and fostering career advancement. Communicate and make decisions using good judgement, expertise and knowledge, governed by legislation, regulations, best practice principles or relevant operating instructions and procedures. Efficiently manage the team workloads including peak periods, overseeing ticketing workflows, while providing exceptional communication and customer service. Develop and support key internal and external relationships, including managing stakeholders to achieve work area and agency goals. Provide specialist advice, guidance and reporting on team functional responsibilities. Contribute to doctrine, election preparation and delivery activities in accordance with the election readiness framework, according to individual accountabilities and responsibilities. Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed by leadership from time to time. To excel you’ll have: Proven ability to supervise a team to ensure high quality outputs, including the development of team members, building team capability and encouraging career development. Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills including the ability to respond to complex queries, providing advice and interpretation to stakeholders regarding AEC and public sector recruitment policy and legislation. Demonstrated ability to actively participate in decision-making processes regarding the improvement of processes and procedures, including setting tasks, priorities, and allocation of resources. Ability to review and develop appropriate documentation and communication while adhering to policy and legislation, with excellent attention to detail and strong quality assurance skills (including writing, editing, proof reading). Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities across a number of different programs and projects within tight timeframes and in line with legislative requirements. Eligibility AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
