Principal Engineer - SaaS experience

The Role Due to exciting growth, by JAVLN is looking for a Principal Engineer with extensive SaaS experience to join our Auckland-based team. As Principal Engineer, you'll play a key role in driving the technical direction of technology initiatives and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality software solutions. You'll come with extensive SaaS experience, with a strong understanding of SaaS principles and how that translates to technology decisions. The ability to move fast and maintain a bias towards shipping will be ingrained in your DNA. This role requires a combination of deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. As a Principal Engineer you will be responsible for leading the design and architecture of software systems, providing mentorship and guidance to engineers, and driving continuous improvement in engineering practices. This is a hands-on role which involves delivering working software as well as improving the overall SDLC and helping to level-up the entire engineering team. You'll be comfortable working with our remote and on-premise engineering teams as well as working together with the CTO and CPO, Staff Engineers and Tech Leads to help design and build the next phase of the platform. You should apply for this role if you have many, or most of the following: Expertise in software design and architecture, with a strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and cloud technologies. Proficiency in FrontEnd technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, Terraform and Front End JS frameworks such as Vue.js, Angular or React A high level of proficiency in a number of backend languages, such as Java, Ruby and C# (all of these are used at JAVLN). The ability to learn new languages as necessary is also important. Strong cloud platform experience with AWS and/or Azure Experience with modern software development practices, including Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse and troubleshoot complex technical issues. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Leadership experience, with a track record of mentoring and coaching engineers to achieve their full potential. Deep understanding of software engineering principles, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design. Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes or equivalent Around 18 years of experience in the software industry in total, with previous experience as an Tech Lead or Staff/Principal Engineer or Principal Architect Any FinTech experience or experience in the insurance industry (InsurTech) would be beneficial, but not essential if you are comfortable learning.
