Our ideal candidate We are looking for leaders who possess the highest level of integrity and ethical standards in order to thrive in a dynamic operational environment. You will lead a team under operational command principles and provide general direction to support border enforcement activities in a variety of operational environments including international airports and seaports, mail and cargo centres, remote locations, coastlines and maritime domains. Working in a high profile and sensitive environment, you will exercise legislated powers during investigations, coordinate compliance activities and provide administrative support to various operational areas. An APS5 Senior Border Force Officer position within East Command provides a dynamic and challenging opportunity for you to enhance your corporate, administration and support skills, while gaining a strong strategic understanding of the pressures and capabilities across the region. At this level, you must be flexible, adaptable, multi-skilled and competent in supporting the changing priorities across the region and on a national level. Duties and responsibilities An APS5 Senior Border Force Officer is accountable and responsible for supporting the delivery of a range of activities, which may include but are not limited to: Under limited direction, perform and achieve a range of routine to moderately complex administrative support work within a fast-paced environment. Lead a small team of officers, ensuring team members are supported to deliver against objectives. Co-ordinate resources (people, technology and other assets) to support the operational priorities of the work area. Liaise effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including corporate areas of the Department, work areas across ABF East and members of the public. Oversee and support officers to manage performance and build capability, including through mentoring, feedback and coaching. Regional Investigations (Specialist role) ABF Investigators pursue matters associated with border-controlled drugs, firearms, visa and migration fraud, child exploitation material, money laundering, tobacco and performance and image enhancing drugs. Candidates must be prepared to complete the following: Undertake investigations into allegations of border related offences Support investigations through the collection of evidence including the execution of search warrants, arrests of suspects, obtaining statement and conducting examinations Whilst not essential, you may hold invaluable Government, regulatory compliance, law enforcement or Defence experience and/or qualifications that offer a unique opportunity to apply your skills in a fresh and exciting environment Ability to obtain and maintain essential and role-specific qualifications as part of employment, including a minimum Certificate IV in Government Investigations For those seeking a challenging and rewarding career within ABF Investigations, roles are subject to additional remuneration as per the current Enterprise Agreement commensurate with each respective APS work level. Border Intelligence (Specialist role) Intelligence Analysts identify, assess and deliver intelligence on specific border threat actors, events and vulnerabilities through the production of intelligence assessments on threat indicators, criminal methodologies and border vulnerabilities. Candidates require the following attributes: Strong critical thinking, decision making and communication skills Plan and conduct information collection, collation and analysis Prepare written products and deliver verbal briefs Take a collaborative approach to operational stakeholder engagement and information sharing. Additional information Exciting opportunities exist for Supervisors in various work areas across East Command, located in NSW and ACT: Aviation Goods NSW: Responsible for the end to end process and oversight of all air cargo and some sea cargo of interest to the ABF imported or exported through Sydney. Aviation Traveller NSW: Responsible for managing border risks related to the movement of people in the aviation environment. Border Clearance ACT: Responsible for managing risks and threats related to the movement of people and goods in the aviation and cargo space, whilst also being the central ABF contact for enquiries made by the diplomatic community. Container Examination Facility (CEF) and Detained Goods Management (DGM) NSW: CEF is responsible for the inspection and examination of imported and exported sea cargo. DGM is responsible for the security, storage and accountability of detained goods delivered via bond runs from various ABF locations. DGM Firearms Cell is a specialised team that sources imported firearms and firearm parts and conducts examinations to determine whether to hold, seize or release imports. Chief of Staff (CoS) East NSW: Responsible for managing engagement visits, organising local events and ceremonies, coordinating training needs, providing workforce support and facilitate corporate governance arrangements. International Mail NSW: Conducts screening, examination and intervention activities to facilitate the clearance of legitimate mail, while preventing the import or export of prohibited or restricted items. Maritime Operations NSW: Responsible for managing border risks related to the movement of people and goods in the maritime environment in NSW. Operations and Planning NSW: Provides operational planning and tactical resourcing support to ABF East Command, including management of the casual workforce. The section also links with law enforcement partners who require operational assistance outside of BAU processes. The Supply Chain Integrity Team focusses on the industry who work with goods under customs control, including trusted insiders. Border Intelligence (BI) NSW (Specialist positions): Supports operational ABF partners in East region through identifying and addressing border threat. Regional Investigations NSW (Specialist positions): Responsible for providing specialist investigation and enforcement capabilities to detect, disrupt and treat complex border crime and systemic vulnerabilities in the trade and migration systems. This position requires the candidate to meet the following requirements: Obtain and maintain essential and role-specific qualifications Maintain dress and appearance standards according to the Department's uniform policy Swear an oath or make an affirmation into the ABF (not required for BI role) Actively participate in career management (postings and deployments) (not required for BI role) Attain and maintain relevant medical, fitness and psychometric standards (not required for BI role) Obtain and maintain a valid driver's licence (preferable) In addition, the candidate may be required to meet the following qualifications dependent on the position: Obtain and maintain an ASIC pass Obtain and maintain a Port Authority of NSW pass Ability to obtain and maintain a current Use of Force qualification Undertake travel at short notice to deploy in a range of operational settings Certificate IV of Government Investigations (or equivalent) with experience in the conduct of criminal and/or civil investigations Shortlisted applicants will be required to provide confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.
