Job Description
LIFX is looking for a talented UI & UX Designer to join our team in Melbourne, helping us as we explore the future look and feel of smart lighting experiences. This exciting role will strongly shape the evolution of the visual language, brand expression and user flows of our products and apps in 2025 and beyond. Based from our office in Richmond (Cremorne), this hybrid role offers flexibility and would be a strong fit for a highly organised designer with an appetite for shaping a holistic and engaging product experiences via iterative improvement. Embedded with our App development team day to day, you’d be learning the ins and outs of what our lights can do and how, as well as collaborating with the Creative Director and Head of Experience when needed to guide the overall direction. As a part of the larger Feit Electric Company (our US parent), our style might be ‘start-up’, but we’re backed by a team with over 45 years of lighting industry knowledge and know how. With our LIFX apps and products our customers control, automate and create with light via Wi-Fi, both at home and from anywhere in the world. Our products also support a rich ecosystem of partner integrations (working with the likes of Apple, Google and Samsung), which consider voice experiences and interfaces, and enhance the overall smart home experience on these platforms. Think you’d love to be a part of our journey? Read on Responsibilities of this role include: Maintain and expand UI element library in Figma. Propose solutions to user problems, audit existing features and suggest app product improvements. Create design elements aligned with development limitations and requirements to achieve experience goals and targets. Collaborate with our in-house app team to ensure they have all the tools and understanding of proposed designs necessary to build planned features. Create prototypes and/or journey maps to show how new feature design patterns will work in context, and to help demonstrate to the engineers what to build. Imagine fun new experiences for customers with our SuperColor lighting products Support and consider in-app education flows to help teach about our app and features, as well as consulting on triggered message campaigns. Communicate feature updates and launches and support with content / instructions as needed. Skills Interpret Design Needs: Translate requirements, larger business goals and user journey flows from idea to polished outcomes to be rolled out to customers. Design Awesome UI: Take user requirements to aesthetic-forward UI designs, adhering to best practices, as well as maintaining design systems, building prototypes where needed to capture feedback and more. Streamline User Journeys: Design seamless and intuitive experiences to iteratively improve our Lighting experiences. Audit existing flows and experiences and proactively engage on where opportunities for improvement can be found. Balance Innovation with Familiarity: Introduce innovative features while maintaining a user interface that is familiar and easy to navigate. Engage with Data: Connect the dots and work towards low friction experiences with our team using data on how designs play out in the wild. Be hands on with User Research: Be comfortable talking with our users in our community, asking them for feedback or running ad-hoc user testing to define customers' needs and evaluate designs and identify user pain points. REQUIREMENTS: Qualification in Design relevant to UI, digital design and/or UX. Strong experience in Figma, adept at Adobe software for ad hoc tasks as required (ie. Photoshop) Over 2 years (minimum) previous professional experience as a Designer at a brand, agency or company, ideally with a focus on digital design, UI or UX.
