The vision for Nursing and Midwifery at The Sutherland Hospital is to build a united team that provides compassionate care to our community through transformational, supportive and holistic nursing and midwifery. Where you'll be working: This role is within Oncology services which is predominately located within the Bangawarra Cancer Care Centre. Bangawarra Cancer Care Centre comprises of an Oncology Day Clinic which operates Monday to Friday 07:30 – 17:00hrs providing care to outpatients. There are 9 chairs and 2 beds allocated for the treatment of Oncology outpatients. Treatments include administration of chemotherapy agents, immunotherapies, blood product support, iron infusions and therapeutic venesections. Also within the Centre are 8 medical Oncology inpatient beds, which has capacity to surge during times of increased demand. The Bangawarra Cancer Care Centre is supported by the Medical team, the Nursing leadership team, Allied Health professionals and the Administration team. For more information we encourage you to contact Erin Gray on Erin.Grayhealth.nsw.gov.au Your new role: The Clinical Nurse Consultant McGrath Cancer Care is a Registered Nurse who has responsibility for providing specialised care, information, education, and support to clients predominately relating to gastrointestinal, genito-urinary and gynaecological cancers in accordance with evidence based clinical practice guidelines and the McGrath Model of Care. The Clinical Nurse Consultant McGrath Cancer Care provides care, information, and support for people with cancer across the continuity of care pathways and multidisciplinary teams across the cancer care community within the Health Service/demographic region. The Clinical Nurse Consultant will provide collaborative clinical and supportive care for people and their families, along with the facilitation of communication across the multidisciplinary cancer care team. The Clinical Nurse Consultant McGrath Cancer Care will have expert knowledge regarding the spectrum of cancer care, inclusive of health assessment, treatment pathways, referrals, and on-going facilitation of clinical and supportive cancer care. Please note this position is 0.42FTE (16hrs) working predominately Thursdays and Fridays. Selection Criteria: Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia, and current NSW Drivers Licence and willingness to utilise as required for the position. Minimum five years full time equivalent post qualification experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field of Oncology or related discipline; and an approved post graduate qualification relevant to the field of practice e.g. Oncology or Cancer Stream specific nursing, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation. Understanding of common treatment regimens for metastatic cancer and the physical and psychological needs of patients with cancer, including metastatic disease; and demonstrated ability to assess symptoms, escalate referrals, plan, initiate and manage complex cases at an advanced level. Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice. Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework. Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence based research. Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes. Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs. Demonstrated clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
