Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Pharmacist Haematology/Oncology- Cancer Services to join our Pharmacy Team in rotation between The London Clinic and Barts Health NHS Trust . This rotational post gives high level experience to a broad range of Cancer activities in both the NHS and Private sector settings. The aim of this post is to assist the Service Lead Pharmacists on each site in the provision and development of a high quality, clinical pharmacy service to Cancer. We are offering a competitive Band 8a salary for this role . The London Clinic's Pharmacy Department are a close-knit team with around 45 staff members. The Pharmacy department comprises of 9 core services : On Call, Dispensary Services, Distribution and Top Up Service, Procurement, Clinical Ward Pharmacy Services, Provision of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), Aseptic/Technical Services, Clinical Governance and Education and Training . We have extensive oncology services, including a purpose-built chemotherapy aseptic compounding suite. As well as an automated medication dispensing system which supports decentralised medicine management in numerous wards . Job Description The Specialist Pharmacist Haematology/Oncology- Cancer Services will work as part of a dedicated pharmacy team to lead, provide and develop cancer pharmacy services. Responsible for managing the pharmacy service to day case chemotherapy services (including chemotherapy production) and provision of clinical services to Haematology and Solid tumour patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting (including responsibility for drug and therapeutics and the electronic prescribing system for your area). Acting as liaison between wards, departments and pharmacy to ensure that pharmacy services are tailored to meet the needs of the wider institution. Job Type : Full Time, Permanent . 37.5 hours per week, plus on-call shifts . Location : The London Clinic 22 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6BW . Duties & Responsibilities Provide a comprehensive and effective patient centered Clinical Pharmacy service to designated Oncology/Haematology wards Lead on and develop elements of the clinical pharmacy service to improve the patient experience . Provide release of chemotherapy products according to GMP Facilitate and promote rational and optimal medicines usage Provide assimilated and relevant medicines information to healthcare professionals and patients To participate in the out of hours pharmacy service as per agreed roster Skills & Experience Lead and manage cancer pharmacy services. Deputise for the Deputy Chief Pharmacist - Cancer Services as needed. Ensure a safe, efficient oncology pharmacy service that meets the needs of the users Optimise medicine use in individual patients Work closely with the multidisciplinary and wider pharmacy teams to optimise patient flow Draw up and implement formulary guidance, based on available evidence, national guidance and commissioning policies in Cancer Ensure the cost-effective expenditure of drugs in order to meet the drugs budget; identify and deliver cost improvement plans for medicines expenditure in conjunction with the relevant teams Ensure all regulatory guidance is adhered to e.g., GMP and GCP Ensure the Cancer Pharmacy Team are achieving their key performance indicator (KPI) targets Ensure all members of the Cancer Pharmacy Team are set clear objectives and are competent in their roles Significant post registration in a hospital-based post Previous experience of working within oncology providing a pharmacy service to oncology wards Previous experience of working within aseptics, including chemotherapy delivery Experience of supervising cytotoxic reconstitution services Experience in successfully managing and organising staff and work / projects Previous experience of undertaking evaluations or reviews of cancer medicines Please see job description attached for further skills and experience.
