Senior Mechanical Engineer Location: Glasgow Permanent: Hybrid working About the Role: We are seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a world-leading defence manufacturing organisation. You will provide expert technical support for design activities, guiding concepts from initial design stages through to engineering release for manufacture. Key responsibilities as a Senior Mechanical Engineer: Lead technical solutions for complex mechanical design challenges. Perform detailed design and stress analysis of pressure vessels and structures. Prepare technical documentation to support engineering design. Deliver full mechanical system designs, from concept to manufacture-ready solutions. Deliver mechanical engineering system design solutions (from initial concept and schematics through to complete system design, including detailed calculations, robust design solutions, and full engineering delivery for manufacture) Ensure compliance with design codes, regulations, and classification requirements. Coordinate with third parties for design approvals. Review and approve engineering drawings and specifications. Supervise draughtsmen and engineers in producing detailed designs and documentation. Participate in design reviews and address client queries with technical solutions. Liaise with clients to ensure efficient, tailored engineering solutions. Provide technical guidance to subcontractors. Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of engineering solutions. Adhere to company standards, processes, and engineering best practices. Oversee and implement engineering design changes What we are looking for in a Senior Mechanical Engineer: Proven expertise in pressure vessel design. Strong background in pressure vessel manufacturing techniques. Experience in a pressure vessel engineering role. Skilled in both design-by-analysis and design-by-rule methods. Proficient in ANSYS Workbench, MathCAD, Finglow, and SolidWorks. Knowledgeable in diving, ship’s systems, and lifting appliances. Familiar with PLM systems for creating and storing engineering packages. Previous experience with dive systems is a plus. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
