PostgreSQL Database Engineer - Multi Strategy Hedge Fund

We are working with a high performing multi-strategy hedge fund, seeking an experienced database engineer with a strong background in PostgreSQL and familiarity with open-source technologies . This role will place you within their database platform team to design, implement, and maintain critical database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring robust expertise in PostgreSQL , security management , and performance tuning , with experience across on-premise (and cloud environments as a bonus(AWS)). Responsibilities: Design, implement, and manage database solutions focused primarily on PostgreSQL , ensuring high availability, performance, and security across various platforms. Serve as a PostgreSQL expert with 5 years of experience managing PostgreSQL databases in both on-premise and cloud environments (AWS RDS, Aurora). Leverage open-source tools (e.g., pgAdmin, Prometheus, Grafana ) to manage, monitor, and optimize database performance. Proactively monitor database performance and resolve issues to ensure seamless operations and scalability. Perform routine maintenance tasks, including backups, restores , and disaster recovery processes. Implement database security measures , including encryption, access controls, and monitoring. Collaborate with development and business teams to optimize database schemas, queries, and indexing to improve performance and scalability. Contribute to the development and enforcement of best practices, ensuring consistency in database management processes. Required Skills: 5 years of production experience managing PostgreSQL databases, with a focus on high availability, performance tuning, and optimization. Experience using open-source tools for database management and monitoring (e.g., pgAdmin, pgBackRest, Prometheus, Grafana ). Strong experience with AWS databases such as RDS and Aurora , with knowledge of cloud architecture . Familiarity with SQL Server or other RDBMS platforms (e.g., MySQL, Oracle) is advantageous. Experience in Linux-based environments for database management. Solid understanding of security best practices and tools for encryption, database security, and permissions management. Previous experience in the financial services sector, particularly with hedge funds or investment banks .
