Job Description

Job Title: Occupational Therapist (OT) Salary: £36,000 - £52,000 Type: Full-Time, Permanent Start Date: As soon as possible MLK Search is excited to be supporting this 'Outstanding' Independent, trauma-centred therapeutic group of schools in Essex who are looking for a confident Occupational Therapist to join their team as soon as possible. As well as offering individual occupational therapy sessions, the occupational therapist will have a therapeutic presence across three, Chelmsford-based schools, lead whole-staff training with a focus on occupational therapy strategies, interventions and key theories, and they will be an ambassador for the organisation's brand and vision. The successful candidate will be a flexible team-player and be able to offer therapeutic interventions that aid pupil’s emotional and physical well-being, they will use key theories such as zones of regulation and sensory integration to support development and access learning. They will be a role-model of best practice and demonstrate support and care of pupils at the very highest of levels, with the confidence and commitment to establish a long-term occupational therapy practice within the organisation. The occupational therapist will be able to draw upon their knowledge, skills and expertise, to work effectively with pupils who present with challenging behaviour and complex social, emotional and learning needs. Purpose of the Role: Work collaboratively with key colleagues to maximise progress. Work therapeutically on a one to one basis, supporting a small group, or with a whole class As well as offering therapy sessions, you will have a therapeutic presence across two schools, supporting both Primary and Secondary students. Leading staff training and development to ensure the truly integrated therapy and learning provision is maintained. Offer therapeutic interventions that aid children’s emotional and physical wellbeing, using zones of regulation and sensory integration to support development and access learning. Core Responsibilities: To plan, resource and prepare effective and engaging therapy programmes for children To liaise professionally with colleagues as appropriate To build positive working relationships with children’s families To ensure children responsible for are supervised and safe at all times To plan, lead and deliver whole-staff therapeutic training Essential and Desirable Requirements: Successful completion of an accredited occupational therapy programme, with certification and associated registration with appropriate body (i.e. HCPC) Experience of working with children and young people in challenging contexts High level of competence in English and mathematics An appropriate level of experience of operating in a classroom (or similar) environment with children with SEMH who present challenging behaviour Experience of working with sensory integration (desirable) Further training or qualifications related to therapy, children & young people, special educational needs and/or leadership & management (desirable) Benefits: Competitive salary: As an independent school, they have the flexibility to offer an attractive pay scale based on skill set and experience.
