Job Description
I have a need for a Contract Technical Services Engineer for my Central Manchester client for an initial 6 months Outside IR35 project. You will be responsible for the infrastructure build, automation and deployment to deliver a production ready environment that can scale to meet on-going growth. Key to this role is experience of automation, scalability, network architecture, monitoring, management and security in either AWS and/or VMWare. You will also create and maintain documentation of client networks and systems for internal teams. You will be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures and provide support for escalated Support tickets. Provide technical support to the network and server infrastructure Plan and implement Infrastructure Projects. Create project plans, design, and implement solutions. Design and implement automation solution for deployment, upgrade and operation of application stacks that can be reused across multiple projects Act as Technical Resource within identified business projects, provide technical documentation (Design, Changes, etc.) to aid the project delivery. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation as it relates to server and network topology, equipment, and configuration(s). Work with Security and Compliance to ensure application stacks are hardened against malicious attacks Act as technical point of escalation to the Service Desk, ensuring all Incidents are promptly acknowledged, in line with the Incident Management process and internal SLA’s. Participate in after-hours upgrades, troubleshooting, and/or on-call availability as needed. Standard system administration duties including server install, System/Application install and patch management, Windows problem determination and resolution, log analysis, etc Identify, diagnose, and resolve network problems including network connectivity, traffic utilization, etc. using available network tools to aid resolution. Provide Infrastructure services in all areas needed: storage networking, Operating System, network security, directory services, server virtualization using system backup and restore, system and network monitoring, application installation and configuration. Management of multiple work-streams; including Problem tickets, Incidents, and Projects, ensuring effective communication across these areas is upheld and attending relevant meetings where necessary to aid in their delivery. Adhere to the company Project Management, Incident management and Change Management methodologies. Investigate emerging technologies. Documenting and presenting findings and subsequent benefits of such technologies to the Management team. Experience and Skills Experience of providing Server/ Infrastructure support within a Support environment. Strong Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems (2016 and later) and Centos based Linux Operating Systems Basic networking fundamentals. Management and Support of windows server roles (Active Directory/DNS/DHCP/Clustering/IIS). Experience working with hyperconverged infrastructure (VMware ESX/NSX/Nutanix). Strong AWS Platform Engineering skills in particular; EC2, S3, IAM and VPC/network configuration Experience of IAC/orchestration tools (Terraform/Ansible/CloudFormation) Server Hardware Builds & Physical Device Installations (HP/IBM/Dell /Lenovo). Monitoring tools (Zabbix, Prometheus, SolarWinds, Nagios). Significant knowledge and/ or experience of working within an IT Support function, in a dynamic pressurised environment, adhering to ITIL best practices (Change, Incident, Problem, Access, etc). Knowledge of IS0 27001, PCI-DSS is advantageous. You must be prepared to work 2 days in the Central Manchester office per week. Role is paying £400-450p/d (outside IR35).
