Lead Engineer - Backend

What the role is all about: We're seeking a Lead Engineer (5-9 years experience) who will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of REA's cutting-edge products. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across the globe, to craft, build, and enhance solutions aimed at delivering outstanding user experiences. While no two days are likely to be the same, your typical responsibilities will include: Work closely with product and design teams to translate user needs into technical specifications, ensuring solutions meet user requirements. Collaborate closely with a variety of teammates to build features, brainstorm design concepts, and develop interactive prototypes (if required). Contribute to the design and architecture of scalable, efficient, and secure backend API solutions, considering long-term scalability and maintainability. Contribute to the adoption of best practices, coding standards, and engineering principles across the team to ensure a high-quality and maintainable codebase. Collaborate with the development team to implement shift-left testing practices, ensuring early and frequent testing throughout the development lifecycle. Conduct performance analysis, optimization, and tuning of backend APIs to enhance efficiency and meet performance targets. Support the teams iterations, scope, capacity, risks, issues, and timelines. Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and architectural reviews to maintain code quality, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure adherence to standards. Mentor and coach engineers, fostering their professional growth, assisting them in overcoming technical challenges. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, such as automation, tooling enhancements, and process optimizations, to increase productivity and operational efficiency. Who were looking for: Our ideal candidate will have skills in some of the following areas, whilst demonstrating both a desire and commitment to learning others. Extensive experience in designing, coding, and testing backend APIs and related technologies. Excellent knowledge of software development principles and best practices. Proficiency in programming languages commonly used by our squad, such as C#, ASP.NET, ASP.NET Core for RESTful Web APIs, JSON, XML, etc. Solid knowledge of relational and non-relations databases such as SQL server, Dynamo DB, etc. Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools. Understanding of API and web security best practices and principles. Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such AWS Expertise in developing and integrating APIs, ensuring scalability and performance. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience with DevOps practices and tools, such as Docker and CI/CD. Ability to work collaboratively and autonomously in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to learn new and complex technologies, and ability to share knowledge with the team. Experience of microservices architecture and migration of legacy APIs to microservices architecture 5 years of experience working with backend API and delivering secure and scalable solutions Bonus points for: Experience in using and managing Cloud infrastructure in AWS.
