Job Description

Role: Childcare Solicitor or Legal Executive

Location: Taunton (other locations available in Somerset)

Hours: Full Time

What will you do?


  • Specialise in public law childcare cases
  • These will include all child protection issues, and all other legal matters involving children
  • Act for parents, guardians and children
  • Advise on all public law matters, including care and supervision orders, emergency protection orders and adoption cases
  • Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency guidelines and manage the legal aid certification process
  • Conduct advocacy in the Family Court and liaise with Counsel when necessary
  • Work closely with local authorities, Children’s Guardians, social services, and other agencies involved in child protection cases
  • Attend court hearings, case management conferences, and directions hearings
  • When appropriate build out a care team

What do you need?


  • To be a qualified solicitor or legal executive
  • Ideally 4+ years’ experience handling your own Childcare Law caseload
  • Child Panel Membership would be ideal, but a willingness to get membership will be sufficient
