Experience Social Worker
Directorate/Group: Learning Disability Team
Job Purpose
To practice as an experienced social worker, upholding Social Work England standards and the BASW Professional Capabilities Framework. This role requires advanced skills in complex assessments, risk management, and support planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a complex caseload, supervising junior staff, and contributing to service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct complex person-centred assessments and develop support plans.
Support carers in complex situations.
Ensure accurate and timely record-keeping.
Gather information to assess eligibility and needs.
Contribute to local knowledge of services and signpost/advocate for individuals.
Apply advanced skills in assessment, support planning, and risk management.
Practice in line with legal requirements, including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Continuing Health Care guidance.
Undertake Best Interests decision-making and chair Best Interests meetings.
Advise and support colleagues on legal, procedural, and practice requirements.
Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns.
Undertake Investigating Officer and Investigating Manager roles.
Provide supervision and mentorship to junior staff.
Participate in Practice Education Professional Standards (PEPS) training and supervise student social workers.
Represent the council in multi-disciplinary working and court proceedings.
Ensure compliance with council policies and procedures.
Contribute to team effectiveness and service improvement.
Engage in continuous professional development.
Be an ambassador for the council and the department.
Knowledge & Experience
Proven track record of strengths-based social work with adults.
Extensive knowledge of health and social care legislation, policies, and guidance.
Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to utilise Microsoft Office and electronic social care record software.
Self-starter with a positive attitude and commitment to high-quality service delivery.
Ability to work collaboratively with others.
Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
Social Work England registration.
Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area (desirable)
