Job Description
Role: TBM Shift Engineer
Location: North Wales
Purpose of the Role:
To manage and optimise the construction of TBM-driven tunnels from installation to demobilisation, ensuring the highest standards of health and safety while delivering project objectives efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Documentation & Processes:
Develop and manage Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Safe Systems of Work (SSWs).
Plan and coordinate site preparations for TBM assembly and launch.
Deliver briefings on Method Statements, safety alerts, and project updates to the workforce.
Produce Temporary Works design briefs and Inspection/Test Plans in line with project QA requirements.
Safety, Environment, & Community:
Participate in SHE inspections and champion project safety initiatives.
Address and report Quality, Safety, and Environmental non-conformances promptly.
TBM & Site Activities:
Manage TBM operations, including guidance, ring selection, and face pressure compliance.
Monitor ground conditions and materials in the Separation Treatment Plant (STP).
Assist in crane coordination for TBM assembly, launch, and disassembly.
Planning & Reporting:
Maintain accurate Tunnel Shift Reports and site diaries, detailing resources, activities, and progress.
Monitor and report on programme progress, highlighting delays and improvement opportunities.
Commercial Awareness:
Contribute to material reconciliations and site stock management.
Support optimisation of TBM operations to maximise efficiency.
Track subcontractor performance, productivity, and compliance with project requirements.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
Engineering Degree/Higher National Certificate (HNC) or similar in a construction discipline.
Substantial onsite experience within the Civil Construction Industry.
Relevant CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
Proficiency in safety, quality, and environmental management processes.
Desirable:
Degree/HNC in Tunnelling, Mining, or Geotechnical Engineering.
IOSH or SSSTS certification.
Experience with TBM-driven segmentally lined tunnels and survey control systems.
Strong track record in planning, cost control, and risk mitigation.
