Quality Engineer
In this role you will enjoy working closely with all areas of our business ensuring that quality processes are followed and that the culture of quality is at the forefront of our approach to production.
You will provide hands-on quality engineering expertise to ensure products and services meet customer requirements. Facilitate, train and support the business in the deployment of Quality improvement initiatives. Manage KPI's and ensure preventative actions are taken to maximise success. Ensure quality excellence throughout to ensure our approach is aligned to our quality standards – ISO9001:2015 and AS9100. Additionally, the role supports purchasing and inspection and operates with production and new product designs.
Role specification and tasks
Provide quality engineering support to operations ensuring consistent application of quality techniques and alignment to quality standards.
Resolve quality issues of capability, tolerancing, and materials related issues.
Resolve quality issues by identifying problems, examining solution options, implementing action plans, and providing resources.
Use of industry standard quality methodologies such as PPAP/APQP and 8D problem resolution
Effectively communicate and reinforce the businesses commitment to quality improvement efforts.
Assisting NPI department in pre-production process ensuring quality excellence is achieved on product prior to release to production.
Working closely with NPI team to ensure pre-production process is supported and quality information is gathered and reported before product release.
Participate in the use of a Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) where required.
Facilitate and promote use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and effective corrective action.
Coordinate with Sales, Purchasing, Engineering, Production, and Toolroom to resolve customer and supplier concerns.
Apply appropriate Measurement System Analysis tools and define, manage, and report on the production key performance indicators (KPI's)
Recommend and implement enhancements to the quality system that result in improved quality performance, increased customer satisfaction, and/or simplification of processes to reduce costs.
Perform supplier audits as required and provide ongoing communication/reporting of results.
Participate in the reporting, analysis and review of product and process performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
Produce quarterly summaries to support production output, purchasing reviews and audits.
Supporting product inspection quality decisions and investigations with a view to reducing engineering support resources.
To maintain, manage and improve non-conformance reporting (NCR) system and allocation of tasks as part of ongoing QMS processes and any reviews.
Desired skills and characteristics:
Minimum of 5 years' experience in quality environments within engineering, manufacturing, marine or defence sectors.
IT literate, proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Practical knowledge of quality Standards.
Proven experience of Production Quality Engineering and Control within a Manufacturing environment.
Experience of process management.
Proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.
Passion for customer satisfaction & soft skills and Process oriented profile
Strong influencing skills & team player
Willing to promote change and drive simplification.
Great attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
Team spirit enabler
Good analytical skills and data manager
Qualifications
BTEc Higher or equivalent ideally, degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or relevant field
Additional certification in Quality Assurance is a plus
Ideally apprenticeship trained
