Mechanical Maintenance Fitter - Plant

We are currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Fitter - Plant to join our friendly team based at Tarmac Arcow Quarry, Settle, North Yorkshire. This role forms part of the engineering function at Arcow Quarry and is easily accessible from Settle, Kirkby Lonsdale, Carnforth, Wray, Kettlewell, Hawes, Morecombe, Kendal, Skipton, Grassington, Burnley, Keighley, Otley and the surrounding areas.

Reporting to the Section Manager, the role of Mechanical Maintenance Fitter - Plant will be responsible for responding to plant breakdowns, taking a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities whilst ensuring assets are returned to production in a timely manner, and temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution.

The Mechanical Maintenance Fitter - Plant will also

• Coordinate with contractors and suppliers when they are on site
• Participate in root cause analysis so repeat failures can be eliminated
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the engineering function
• Perform Welding and Fabricating tasks
• Work with risk assessments and method statements
• Contribute to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair procedures
• Maintain and promote Health & Safety rules and follow all company processes, procedures and regulations
• Challenge unsafe conditions and practices, reporting these through company procedures
• Utilise computerised maintenance management system, recording all work including fault descriptions, spares used, and repairs carried out

The ideal candidate for the role of Mechanical Maintenance Fitter - Plant will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work with minimal supervision. You should also demonstrate proven experience working within an Industrial, Factory or similar environment. Suitable candidates for the role of Mechanical Maintenance Fitter - Plant will:

• Have a strong, practical mechanical systems background, heavy industry preferred - conveyors, drive systems motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens
• Possess a fault-finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action
• Possess the ability to remove and fit bearings as well as perform welding and fabrication tasks
• Be confident to undertake emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment
• Competent in the use of application-based inspection schemes
• Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly
• Knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices
• Recognised apprenticeship advantageous
• ONC/HNC advantageous
