Job Description
Position Overview – Electrical Maintenance Engineer
GRS are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join a contractor operating within the Water Industry. In this role, you will play a key part in the maintenance, installation, and commissioning of control systems, variable speed drives (VSDs), and associated equipment across water treatment works, pumping stations, water supply works, and booster stations.
This is a hands-on role requiring a strong understanding of electrical and control systems, particularly with variable speed drives and pump control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
* Perform routine maintenance and repairs to ensure reliability and longevity of electrical systems, VSDs, and associated control panels.
* Diagnose and resolve faults within electrical and control systems, including VSD-related issues.
* Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns or faults to minimize system downtime.
Installation & Commissioning
* Install and configure VSDs, control systems, and associated equipment for both fresh and wastewater sites.
* Conduct field wiring, cable installations, and terminations for control equipment and instrumentation.
* Commission systems, ensuring optimal configuration for motor control, speed regulation, and system efficiency.
* Perform on-site testing, troubleshooting, and performance validation to meet client specifications.
Documentation & Reporting
* Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, installations, and modifications.
* Generate detailed reports on troubleshooting, repairs, and commissioning activities.
* Provide feedback to the engineering team to improve system designs and maintenance processes based on field insights.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience:
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in electrical maintenance, controls, automation systems, or VSDs in industrial applications, preferably within the water or a similar sector.
* Proven track record of diagnosing faults, maintaining, and commissioning electrical systems and control panels.
* Familiarity with water treatment, pumping systems, or related applications is highly advantageous.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with clients and team members.
* Proactive, adaptable, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
* Willingness to travel to client sites, with flexibility to adapt to project requirements.

Additional Details of the Role:
* Call-Outs: Participation is optional and compensated generously:
* Double time for call-outs during unsociable hours.
* Time-and-a-half for call-outs during regular extended hours.
* Travel Time: Fully covered from home to site and back.
