Job Description
Are you passionate about automation and process improvement? Do you have the technical know-how and problem-solving skills to keep cutting-edge manufacturing systems running smoothly? If so, we want you to join our team as a PLC Control Engineer.
As the technical authority for Machine Control System Safety, you'll be responsible for standardising hardware, software controls, and process control systems across the business. You’ll play a key role in driving continuous process improvements, upgrading existing equipment, and supporting the introduction of new manufacturing systems.
In this role, you will be the first point of contact for all controls and instrumentation breakdowns, applying logical fault-finding techniques to resolve issues efficiently and minimise downtime. You will also help shape the future of our manufacturing processes by identifying long-term solutions and improvement opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
* Technical Lead: Serve as the shift expert for control systems and instrumentation for all process equipment.
* Automation & Hardware Maintenance: Troubleshoot and replace faulty automation hardware, including drives, PLCs, HMIs, and more.
* Diagnostics & Reporting: Create detailed shift reports, outlining issues, investigations, and solutions, with recommendations for future actions.
* Preventative Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance, including testing electrical terminals, inspecting panels, and calibrating equipment instrumentation.
* System Improvements: Collaborate with teams to drive improvements in machine efficiency, productivity, and safety.
* Risk Assessment & Safety: Provide expert input into safety and operational risk assessments, and contribute to engineering solutions to mitigate risks.
* Project Support: Assist the capex team with control system upgrades during equipment installation and commissioning.
* Data Utilisation: Use diagnostic tools and data collection to investigate anomalies and breakdowns, contributing to ongoing process improvements.
What You'll Bring:
* Minimum of ONC/HNC in Electrical, Controls, or Instrumentation disciplines.
* Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of electrical and control system hardware, automation software, and PLC, HMI, and drive design applications.
* Experience with Allen Bradley Control Systems is highly desirable.
* Understanding of hydraulic systems and how automation integrates with hydraulic systems is a plus
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and Project.
