Location: Cambian Spring Hill School, an independent Special School for Young People with Autism
Salary: Competitive, Dependent on Experience
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and experienced English teacher to join our vibrant and supportive team at our Independent Special School for young people with Autism. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the education and development of our students, supporting them to achieve their potential in a creative, inclusive, and enriching environment.
As the English Lead, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and leadership of the English curriculum, and literacy and reading development across the school, ensuring that our students receive the best possible education in these key areas. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including specialist staff, to provide tailored and adaptive learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of our students.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, develop, and implement a dynamic English curriculum tailored to the specific needs of students with Autism.
Work closely with staff to ensure that the teaching of English is inclusive and accessible, using a range of strategies to support diverse learning styles.
Lead on reading and literacy across the curriculum
Regularly assess student progress, adapting the curriculum to ensure continuous development and engagement.
Support the use of communication aids, visual supports, and other tools to ensure students can access learning and express themselves effectively.
Collaborate with the school leadership team to set and review academic goals and strategies.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure the holistic development of each student.
Contribute to the wider life of the school, including participating in extracurricular activities and school events.
Key Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
Experience teaching English, preferably in a special education setting.
Strong knowledge of the national curriculum for English and best practices in supporting students with Autism.
Experience in leading or coordinating teams and a passion for fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.
A commitment to developing and adapting teaching methods to suit the individual needs of students.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage students, staff, and parents.
An understanding of safeguarding principles and the ability to work within a safe and supportive environment.
Desirable:
Experience in working within an Independent Special School setting.
Further qualifications or training in Autism Spectrum Disorders or Special Educational Needs.
Experience in developing and delivering personalised learning plans and assessments.
