Senior Design Development Engineer
Are you an experienced engineer with a passion for innovation? Are you ready to take on a dynamic role where you can lead the development of new products and working with material experts while leading from the front / contributing to cutting-edge technology development? We are seeking a Senior Design Development Engineer / Senior Product Engineer to join our growing team, working on innovative projects that serve key global markets.
Location: Bridgwater
Salary: Competitive, circa £40k-£45K, flexible depending on experience
Hybrid Working: Available – 2 days a week from home

Join a global manufacturer of complex mechanical equipment, based near Dunball / Wembdon / Bridgwater, as they expand their product lines and innovate within the industry. This dynamic site, with around 100 employees, boasts a strong order book and exciting new projects on the horizon. Specialising in the design and manufacture of customisable materials within the mechanical engineering space, supplying into all industries with a primary focus on highly regulated industries.
The Role:
We are seeking a Senior Design Development Engineer who is experienced, innovative, and capable of driving multiple product lines forward. This role requires a streetwise individual who can navigate challenges and minimize errors while asking the right questions to foresee and prevent potential issues.
Key Responsibilities:
* Innovative Development: Lead the evolution and development of new products, particularly a new range of seals that have not been previously manufactured or sold.
* Technical Solutioning: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including chemistry and materials experts, to identify and implement high-performance materials suitable for diverse markets.
* Customer Engagement: Build strong relationships with customers, ensuring a deep understanding of their needs. Conduct site visits to capture accurate requirements and feedback.
* Project Management: Manage your own projects with an emphasis on innovation and continuous improvement, while providing technical support to ensure successful delivery.
Essential Requirements:
* Experience: 5+ years in a design engineering role with a strong mechanical engineering or manufacturing background. A history of learning from failure is highly valued.
* Innovative Mindset: Proven ability to think outside the box and develop solutions tailored to market demands.
* Customer Focus: Strong listening skills and the ability to accurately record customer needs without a sales-driven approach.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience in working closely with various teams, particularly in materials and chemistry, to drive product development.
* Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel occasionally, approximately once per month / two months across Europe, to engage with customers directly.
