Job Description

Role: Senior Support Worker

Working Environment: Solo Children's Residential Home

Salary: £14.00 per hour

OVERVIEW:

Senior Residential Support Worker

Working 40 Hours per week, working out at approximately 3x 12-hour shifts, training or supervision needs. Sleep ins are required on a weekly basis, approx. 1-2. All shifts will be from 7am-7pm (7am-11pm, if doing a sleep in), additional overtime may be available.

Role Description

This is a full-time, permanent role, located in Stanley. We are looking for individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of children and young people; to promote them to develop socially, emotionally, promote independence while offering enjoyment and achieving through all daily aspects. Create a setting where they feel safe and cared for. To act as a positive role model and work closely with the young people to enable them to overcome any barriers and achieve their maximum potential. As a Senior you will be required to shift lead; delegate, decision making, ensuring all tasks are undertaken, be a mentor for the staff and report to the Deputy and Registered Manager.

What we would like from you

· NVQ 3 in Health and Social care (children), or equivalent.

· 12 months experience working with children.

· Have a UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle.

· Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding procedures and practices.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

* Support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager with the effective and efficient running of shifts and development of staff.

* Monitor and maintain administrative requirements, ensuring that the outcome meets the standards set out in children’s legislation, and the homes working practices.

* Ensure ongoing assessment of children and young people’s needs in day-to-day practices.

* Oversee, supervise and develop the skills of staff in their daily working practices.

* Promote and actively encourage the delivery of a safe, structured and nurturing environment.

* Relate to and engage young people who display challenging behaviour

* At all times ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the children and young people.

* Ensure staff are aware of and deliver the support required to ensure the life chance opportunities of children and young people are met in relation to their social, educational, leisure, emotional, physical and cultural needs.

* Ensure the delivery of all key worker areas and responsibilities.

* Be a role model to young people and a positive influence in their life.

* To maintain a high quality of care and support which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and cultural needs of children and young people

* Implementing appropriate routines, structure and boundaries for the children/young people and ensuring consistency with plans in place.

* Work in line with the young person’s individual care plan and safety plans/ risk assessments. Update and review plans and assessments in place.

* Supporting young people with communication and sensory needs

* Working in accordance with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.

* Helping children and young people to reach their potential and reach goals and targets.

* Attending meetings for young people, and factually recording the meeting minutes, ensuring children’s views wishes and feelings are heard.

* Writing reports to share with the Care Team for Looked After Reviews.

* Communicating with professionals (via telephone, e-mail and in person) such as, Social Workers, Education Providers and Health Professionals.
