Your Role
As a part-time Chef in the Army Reserve, you’ll use your existing qualification to work alongside fellow cooks to provide and support the dietary needs of soldiers. You’ll get to apply your skills to create food that sustains the Army’s optimal cognitive and physical human performance, all while adding the challenge of a military experience to your everyday role.
You’ll be responsible for cooking a variety of dishes and preparing meals in specialised fields and commercial kitchens. You’ll also get to cook at important functions and VIP events.

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience.
On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn a package worth at least $201/day tax-free.
Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.
Location
You will train for 3 weeks in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Following your training, you will be posted to an Army unit close to where you live.
Eligibility:
For this role, you must:
- Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
- Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics
- Be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details
- Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
- Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
- Be a qualified Chef/Cook who has completed an approved apprenticeship/traineeship at a recognised institution
