Laboratory Technician

Minimum Requirements: National Diploma in Biomedical Technology or Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technical Certificate Proven laboratory experience (1-2year), particularly in molecular biology, immunology, or related techniques. Experience with human samples handling, ELISA techniques and cell culture (desirable) Ability to work according to standard procedure protocols Computer Literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and Internet; Data Management Systems advantageous) Knowledge of medical terminology (especially TB/HIV/COVID-19) Proactive, with the ability to self-manage Excellent organisational and detailing skills The following will be advantageous: Good Clinical Practice Certification HPCSA registration Proficiency in managing biorepositories Keen interest in Research (particularly Allergy, Immunology and Dermatology) Responsibilities include (but not limited to): Assisting with logistics regarding appropriate collection, transport and storage of specimens Ensuring appropriate processing of specimens in the laboratories Performing relevant scientific experiments in line with needs of specific research projects. Maintaining study specific laboratory working files with all the relevant documentation Ensuring good Quality Assurance and Quality Control Ordering laboratory supplies, as needed Keeping detailed and accurate records of laboratory activities Compile monthly reports on diagnostic tests run in the laboratory Additional Information: 12-month Fixed Term Contract Working hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday Position will be based at Groote Schuur Hospital, Observatory Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
