What you'll do:
This role is performed on-site in Kentwood, Michigan working Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some on call requirements.
The Senior Data Center Technician combines the disciplines of data center management, project management, IT, and customer service. This position requires maintaining electrical, mechanical, security, fire suppression, building controls, and physical building solutions. An extensive understanding of data center engineering and data center equipment is required. Additionally, the technician oversees capacity monitoring and all data center components to ensure the overall safety, availability, and reliability of data center operations, meeting or exceeding defined service levels. The Senior Data Center Technician reports directly to the Data Center Manager.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide engineered plans, and configurations to support the delivery of projects focused on various data center technologies.
Monitor, and document data center HVAC, fire suppression, and electrical capacity.
Help plan and implement improvements to capacity planning as needed.
Develop bill of material and price quotes for collocation projects.
Work independently on deadline sensitive jobs or projects.
Manage, facilitate, and perform project work for deployment of data center infrastructure and customer projects.
Manage several engineering projects simultaneously.
Responsible for researching current and new data center technologies in order to improve data center operations and reduce operating costs.
Update and maintain all facilities owned site drawings.
Monitor, document, and report on all phases of planning and construction.
Tier II and III troubleshooting with internal team members, vendors, and customers.
Lead new customer project pricing, planning, and documentation.
Suggest, document, and implement departmental policies to gain efficiencies.
Work with other departments to help facilitate and streamline inter-departmental procedures.
Back up for other facilities department personnel.
Other duties as provided by US Signal management.
Provide guided tours of data centers and colocations, with the ability to address questions from potential customers.
Required Experience:
Competencies:
Knowledge of data center planning and construction management processes and procedures.
Knowledge of estimating, budgeting, and scheduling practices.
Knowledge of building codes and standards of practice at all of our locations.
Experience working with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and security equipment.
High level of analytical ability and effective communicator (written and verbal).
Attention to detail, highly accurate, and possess excellent organizational skills.
Self-driven and possess the ability to manage projects and multi-task to meet strict deadlines.
Ability to work well within all areas of the US Signal organization as well as external customers and vendors.
Education:
Associates degree in Facilities Management, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree is preferred.
Experience:
Experience working in data centers and/or experience with data center infrastructure to include electrical, HVAC, fire suppression, and security systems.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
This position operates in a variety of environments. The majority of the time is spent in a professional office environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment. This position requires unaided lifting up to 100#, climbing ladders or scaffolding, repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching and/or crawling. Personal Protective Equipment includes safety glasses, protective gloves and hard hat, all as necessary.
Required License(s)/Certification(s):
Valid, active driver’s license with a good driving record as defined by the Company’s current insurance provider.
