Slate is a new company that is exploring development in the electric vehicle space

Who we are looking for:

The Propulsion Systems group at Slate is looking for an energetic, fun, organized, experienced Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) - Electrical Design Release Engineer to join our growing team. Responsibilities include hardware and software releasing, supplier management, system and hardware requirement development.

What you get to do:
  • Develop functional requirements for the vehicle control unit (VCU) focusing on interfaces, diagnostics, and fault detection protocol.
  • Create and document comprehensive test plans for the control modules.
  • Manage the release of control module software and hardware Part Numbers in the Product Lifecycle Management system, ensuring consistent maintenance and updating of release levels throughout design maturation.
  • Lead DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) reviews to identify and mitigate technical risks, enhancing detection capabilities and reducing potential design failures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review hardware and SW, ensuring compliance with Slate requirements.
  • Work closely with HIL/SIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop/Software-in-the-Loop) Validation Engineers to develop and refine test plans, ensuring design adherence to program requirements.
  • Implement and maintain cyber-security best practices to ensure robust protection for customers and the corporation throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Apply LEAN Engineering methodologies in all aspects of work.
What you bring to the team:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, Computer, Mechanical or related engineering field from an ABET accredited institution.
  • 5 - 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in hands-on and detail-oriented tasks.
  • Comfortable working with both low voltage and high voltage systems.
  • Exceptional communication, team building, and relationship building skills.
  • Experience in:
    • Open and closed-loop control systems for sensors, actuators, body controllers, ECUs, etc.
    • Low voltage components (e.g., circuit breakers, relays, wiring).
    • High voltage components (e.g., DCDC converters, motors and inverters, batteries, on-board chargers).
    • Communication protocols like CAN-Bus, LIN, and Ethernet.
    • Tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and State flowcharts.
    • Problem-solving methodologies like 8D, Five Whys, and Fishbone process.
    • Adherence to industry standards such as FMVSSS, NHTSA, DOT, NFPA, SAE, NEC, etc.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Master's degree in engineering or business
  • Experience in the full product life cycle
  • Reactive and/or DFSS black belt
  • Previous Hybrid or electrification calibration experience
  • Hardware and Software experience
