Job Description
Center for Developmentally Disabled (CDD) / Rainbow Center is a private, not-for-profit corporation founded in 1972. CDD provides residential care services and day habilitation to adults with developmental disabilities in the greater Kansas City, MO area.

Summary/Objective
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides basic medical care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The LPN assist in the care of monitoring client health, trainings for direct support staff in delegations and other skills training, teaching medication administration courses, and performing routine clinical tasks.
Essential Functions

Clinical Tasks
- Provide nurse delegation trainings to staff.
- Assist with Health Risk Screening Tool (HRST) as allowed by the Department of Mental Health
- Provide basic nursing care to clients as directed by an RN and within the scope of the LPN license.
- Monitor health and record vitals as necessary.
- Assist with doctor's appointment as requested.
- Complete Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) assessments as requested.
- Assist with wound care, including dressing changes and skin assessments.
Medication Administration
- Teach the approved Department of Mental Health Level I Medication Administration training
- Assist in destroying expired, discontinued, and/or unused medications as requested.
- Complete immunizations per the Center for Disease Control and Department of Mental Health guidelines.
Documentation
- Accurately document activities in each individual's chart.
- Accurately communicate staff training activities.
Communication
- Communicate client status and change to the appropriate RN and appropriate team members.

- Valid Missouri Chauffeur's License or Kansas Class C license
Supervisory Responsibility
No supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a teaching classroom at the main CDD office, as well as at group home or Independent Supported Living (ISL) setting. There could be exposure to high levels of noise, human elements such as (blood, urine, etc.); frequent interruptions and fast paced working conditions. In this role standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines are routinely used.
Physical Demands
The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, climb or bend. The employee must constantly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Also requires stepping up into commercial passenger vans as needed.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with core hours of work varied depending on home location.
Travel
Driving throughout the metropolitan area daily or as needed using your personal vehicle or agency vehicle
Required Education and/or Experience
Graduate from an accredited LPN program and licensed in the State of Missouri.
Preferred Education and Experience
Have two or more years of experience working with persons with Intellectual Disabilities, Geriatrics or related field.
