Position Summary
Leads initiatives in expanding the market presence of the Airbus U.S. Space & Defense rotor-wing aircraft programs and drives strategic growth within the U.S. Department of Defense and defense sectors. Applies a deep understanding of defense procurement processes, strong relationships within government agencies, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments to gaining visibility of and appreciation for the value of Airbus U.S. manned and uncrewed rotor-wing products.
Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with the company's vision and objectives.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to shape the overall strategic direction and prioritize initiatives.
Market Analysis & Opportunity Identification:
  • Conducts thorough market assessments to identify trends, emerging opportunities, and potential threats within the defense aviation sector, both domestic and international.
  • Monitors DoD procurement policies, budget allocations, and strategic priorities to inform business strategies.
Relationship Management:
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders within the DoD.
  • Engages with industry partners, contractors, DoD personnel, and policymakers to promote the company's capabilities and offerings.
  • Coordinates key leadership engagements with government and industry stakeholders as necessary in furtherance of Military Line of Business campaigns.
Proposal Development & Contract Negotiation:
  • Oversee the development of proposals and bids for government contracts. Ensure all proposals are compelling and compliant.
  • Support negotiations in contracts and agreements in order to secure favorable terms and conditions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, government relations, and marketing teams to align business development efforts with product capabilities and customer requirements.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between teams to drive innovation and responsiveness to client requirements, representing the voice of the customer.
Partnership Development:
  • Identify and forge strategic partnerships and alliances to enhance business growth.
  • Support negotiation of contracts and agreements that maximize company interests while fostering collaborative relationships.
Performance Tracking & Reporting:
  • Establish metrics to measure the effectiveness of business development activities and adjust strategies based on performance data.
  • Provide regular updates to the executive team on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
Team Leadership:
  • Lead and mentor a team of business development professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
  • Support professional development and continuous learning within the team.
Additional Responsibilities:

Qualifications

Education:
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in management, engineering, high-tech communications or related field.
  • Preferred: Master's or higher degree in management, engineering, high-tech communications or related field.
Experience:
  • 15 years' experience in business development and /or sales (or DoD service with relevant senior level experience) required.
  • Experience in business development or strategy within the defense industry, with a strong focus on aviation or aerospace.
  • Proven track record of successfully securing contracts and managing relationships with the DoD and other government agencies.
  • Foreign Military Sales experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of defense procurement processes, compliance regulations, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with the capacity to develop actionable insights from complex data.
Licensure/Certifications:
  • Shipley certification or equivalent training in business development and/or proposal leadership
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
  • Superior written and spoken communications skills required.
  • Experience in and knowledge of U.S. government interagency policy-making and budget allocation is required.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to maintain effective relationships/ communication with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to effectively work within a matrix organization; ability to effectively work at remote sites; demonstrated experience managing and/or developing business.
Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Foreign language proficiency is helpful.
Technical Systems Proficiency:
  • SAP
  • Microsoft Office Suite
Travel Required:
  • 30% Domestic and International
  • Support internal and external customer meetings, conferences, events as well as supporting overseas management communication events as required.
Eligibility:
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
Clearance:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance.
  • Active DoD security clearance at Top Secret/ SCI desirable.
Physical Requirements:
  • Carrying: able to carry documents and/or electronic equipment up to 20lbs/9kg.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents and/or electronic equipment up to 20lbs/9kg.
  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.
  • Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
