(Bridgeview Community Mental Health Center(CMHC) is an affiliate of Bethany for Children & Families)


The Supervising Therapist position is a management post reporting to the Associate Division Director of Mental and Behavioral Health. The Supervising Therapist provides overall supervision to clinically licensed therapists employed within the CMHC's outpatient and/or school-based therapy programs. The person may or may not work directly with an established client caseload.

Supervising Therapist Job Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure therapists process referrals in a timely manner upon receipt.
  2. Ensure therapists consistently meet annual productivity standards, monitor ongoing referrals, need for services, and utilization by school. Make recommendations for changes or relocation as appropriate.
  3. Ensure informed consent documents, and releases of information, are completed by staff in a timely manner and in accordance with the agency's policies and procedures.
  4. Monitor the process related to BHIS Behavioral Health Evaluations, ensure that the therapist who completes the evaluation does so in a timely manner and in accordance with agency's policies and procedures.
  5. Ensure the therapists consistently complete and update mental health evaluations, treatment plans, crisis plans, session notes, collateral contact notes and discharge summaries in accordance with agency's policies and procedures.
  6. Ensure the therapists provide quality services by monitoring and reporting processes that examine the utilization, quality assurance, and outcome measurement data.
  7. Ensure the therapists use clinical interventions and approaches that are evidence based and align with accepted practice standards related to psychotherapy.
  8. Implement continuous quality improvement activities as needed:
  • Conduct chart reviews for members of the therapy team
  • Review all chart review results
  • Develop corrective action plans to address any areas of concern with individual employees and/or improve department systems and processes
  • Ensure all improvement activities and corrective action plans are accurate and completed in a timely manner

9. Ensure the therapists provide the CMHC with any needed information related to credentialing and/or contracting in a timely manner.


10.Provide overall supervision of assigned employees:

  • Developing a competent and productive staff; closely supervise staff, which includes hiring, orienting/training, disciplining, coaching, appraising performance, and terminating employment
  • Meet individually with employees in accordance with the agency's supervision policy
  • Sign off on all clinical documentation and session notes in a timely manner and in accordance with agency's policies and procedures
  • Provide educational and growth opportunities to staff members within the agency's policy framework and with the approval of his/her supervisor
  • Enforce all rules, regulations, codes, and legal requirements that are assigned by the various licensing and accreditation entities
  • Maintain individual supervision records

11. Provide clinical supervision to initially licensed social workers or counselors working toward their independent licensure. This includes the following:

  • Ensure agency's supervised professional practice agreements are signed and properly maintained
  • Ensure a supervision plan is submitted to the appropriate Iowa or Illinois board of licensure
  • Provide weekly clinical supervision and maintain individual and group supervision notes
  • Staff cases and ensure clinical support is provided to employees
  • Earn the necessary CEU's to allow the ability to clinically supervise social workers or counselors.

12. Function as the independently licensed clinical consultant for the agency's community-based programs, as needed.

13. Facilitate ongoing group meetings, designed to review cases and discuss clinical concerns. Maintain needed documentation of meetings including topics reviewed and employees in attendance.

14. Provide or facilitate clinical training and education to department staff as requested.

15. Write and maintain policies, procedures, program manuals and other helpful internal resource documents as needed.

16. Maintain positive relationships for all funding and referral sources, through the provision of quality services and timely responses to questions, concerns, and issues as well as with other agency supervisors.

17. Demonstrate a commitment to ethical practices and maintain the highest level of professional integrity in adherence to the company's corporate compliance program.

18. Perform and carries out all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Supervising Therapist Requirements:


1. Have the ability to fulfill all of the regulatory requirements for employees of a Community Mental Health Center in the State of Iowa or Illinois as required by state and federal law. This includes successful completion of the criminal background investigation, clearance from the Illinois CANTS when applicable, as well as the office of the inspector general exclusionary screening.

2. Have a valid driver's license, meet qualifications to operate agency vehicles, and have acceptable auto insurance coverage.

3. Required Education and Licensure

  • Master's Degree in a mental health field including, but not limited to, psychology, counseling and guidance, psychiatric nursing, or social work.
  • Hold a current, unrestricted independent license (LISW, LMHC, LCPC, or LCSW) in the state of Iowa or Illinois depending upon which state the therapist is working and supervising.

4. Experience and Skills

  • Have five years of experience as a therapist practitioner at the independent level required.
  • Have knowledge of Medicaid regulations, CMHC Accreditation standards, and state regulations and requirements related to the practice of therapy.
  • Be able to efficiently evaluate and assess clients' functioning and develop and formulate an effective treatment plan for each client based on the diagnostic evaluation.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team framework, contributing to and supporting team decisions, processes, procedures, and policies as established.
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing.

The incumbent in the role of Supervising Therapist must be able to:

Travel to different work sites.

Transport self to/from various locations.

Work in a moderately noisy and distracting environment.

Endure some mental stress due to the nature of the job and the volume of client contact.

Remain awake during work hours.
