Major Responsibilities:
- Acquires quality diagnostic images for radiographic interpretation.
- 1)Performs a quality exam and orders exams appropriately. Performs diagnostic images according to established policies, procedures, standards and protocols.
- 2)Determines appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient’s condition to obtain and provide quality images to the physicians and radiologists. Determines and uses appropriate technique for positioning patient using immobilization and support devices as needed. Seeks feedback from Radiologist for improvement and compliance.
- 3)Secures history from patient regarding reason for prescribed tests and records on appropriate form for the radiologist’s review.
- 4)Prepares, submits, and maintains all documents required for successful accreditation of general x-ray. Maintains record keeping systems in compliance with regulations.
- 5)Maintains integrity of supplies and equipment in the department. Performs daily quality control and ensures that preventative maintenance of all radiographic equipment is performed.
- 6)Provides and practices radiation protection and safety in conjunction with IEMA standards. Display/wears radiation dose measurement badge when required.
- 7)Checks image quality to assure optimal quality is attained and correct image labeling is visible to the Radiologist.
- Provides quality patient care and supports the operational needs of the clinic
- 1)Accurately obtains and documents patient history, intake information including chief complaint, vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure) as needed. Conducts appropriate pain assessment and obtains pulse oximeter readings.
- 2)Obtains 12 lead EKG as needed, sends tracing out for interpretation and documents appropriately.
- 3)Performs venipuncture per procedure/standards using aseptic technique with minimal trauma to vein. Able to identify appropriate tube colors and operate centrifuge as indicated for specific procedures.
- 4)Performs laboratory functions: Collects and prepares specimens for testing, performs routine in-house lab tests, performs and documents quality controls, records lab results and tests performed in log and on chart. Informs physicians or RN of abnormal or panic values.
- 5)Performs responsibilities for occupational health as needed: Familiar with occupational health agreements as evidenced by reading agreements and performing tests accurately. Accurately performs breath alcohol testing and completes BAT documentation according to regulations and departmental guidelines. Performs audiometry, spirometry, EKG, vision and other tests as specified by company agreement.
- 6)Accurate collection and completion of urine drug screen specimens using chain of custody procedures and appropriate selection of drug screen kit and chain of custody form as specified by the company agreement.
- 7)Demonstrates ability to utilize medical equipment appropriately (EKG, etc.)
- 8)Coordinates the flow of patients into and out of the department in accordance with established departmental procedures.
- 9)Cleans, stocks, and prepares rooms. Maintains inventory of medical supplies.
- Demonstrates commitment to providing quality and safe patient care by participating in performance/process improvement and adherence to all accepted safety standards and practices to ensure patient safety and quality patient care.
- 1)Utilizes preventative measures and maintains compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff at all times. Identifies potential and actual problems which put people at risk for injury. Promptly reports all concerns to management and enters incidents into the tracking system as needed.
- 2)Assists in the development and implementation of improvement processes as applicable.
- 3)Adheres to all policies, procedures and regulatory expectations. Understands and follows HIPAA, other regulations and standard, hospital, medical group and departmental policies and procedures.
- 4)Participates in performance improvement activities. Gathers, documents and reports data as necessary. Demonstrates commitment to quality by achieving compliance on primary responsibilities and expectations.
- 5)Performs clerical duties such as maintaining adequate patient records, answering phones, scheduling examinations, giving instructions to patients in preparation for examination to provide smooth and continuous departmental services when needed.
- 6)Demonstrates proper body mechanics in carrying out job responsibilities
- Demonstrates professional behavior, follows service expectations for patient centered design, and participates as a collaborative member of the patient care team.
- 1)Provides competent, appropriate and timely service to all customer groups. Consistently practices good internal customer service, remembering that peers, patients and physicians are customers.
- 2)Greets everyone appropriately using Advocate's Behavioral Expectations and AIDET. Guides patients and visitors to the facility to where they need to go.
- 3)Supports the team environment first and foremost and collaborates with team members. Works well as a team player.
- 4)Communicates pertinent information and any information regarding delays with patients and families. Disseminates accurate and complete information to all inquiries regarding patient care, hours, services, programs, etc.
- 5)Serves as a positive role model for peers and staff. Demonstrates support of the organization, department and staff through all words and actions. Displays pleasant personality and positively contributes to department morale.
- 6)Anticipates the needs of the department and others. Modifies work schedule to cover vacancies, assists on special projects or meet work deadlines. Works other shifts periodically as needed for the facility.
- 7)Observes guidelines concerning dress, display of name badge and presents an appearance appropriate to the work environment. Assists in keeping environment neat and orderly.
- 8)Demonstrates initiative by identifying opportunities for improvement and works collaboratively with the patient care team to develop and implement solutions.
- 9)Attends department meetings, classroom education and independently completes online learning in a timely manner. Participates in opportunities to grow and develop in position and improve the department.
- 10)Participates in problem solving issues addressing patients, department operations, quality assurance procedures, interdepartmental relations, and employee morale.
- Participates in educational opportunities to increase professional competence in all related job duties. Provides instruction and orientation to technologists as needed.
- 1)Recognizes own needs for continued learning and assumes responsibility for own continuing education.
- 2)Provides direction and instruction to technologist in need of assistance with specific procedures
- 3)If applicable, as a preceptor, collaborates with others to individualize the orientation plan for new departmental employees.
- 4)Presents or coordinates inservices for staff when there are procedural changes that may affect the site as a whole.
- 5)Independently completes mandatory annual education requirements and follows through and meets deadlines for competencies.
Education/Experience Required:
- Must be a graduate form an accredited AMA School of Radiology 0 – 1 year experience as a general radiographer
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of HIS system Basic Knowledge of RIS system Effective interpersonal skills
- IDNS accreditation in medical radiation technology AART certified or AART eligible CPR certified
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to make independent professional decisions pertaining to high quality patient care High degree of technical skills Must be able to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities Must be conscientious in practicing high quality patient care Must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Must be willing to rotate to other off-site locations. Radiation exposure Must be able to deal with ill patients Ability to lift and/or move patients. Heavy lifting: lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases. This position can recognize needs and behaviors of the following age groups: pediatric (newborn, toddler, school-age), adolescent, adult, older adult. Evidence of this can be shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses.
- If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
