Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities of this job are included but not limited to this job description – other tasks may be assigned and expected to be performed.
- Studies and interprets blueprints to visualize final form of die, part or tool, and plans sequence of operations to achieve desired end result
- Works from prints, sketches, verbal or written instructions, or from existing part to be copied or fitted
- Lifts, positions, and secures parts to be machined on surface plate or worktable, using hoist, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates
- Sets up and operates machine tools such as manual grinders and other equipment.
- Plans the set up and operation of tooling considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and grinding dimensions.
- Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts, using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, dial indicators, and gage blocks
- Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies, using wrenches, hammers, arbor or hydraulic presses
- Trouble shoots poor performing tools, identifying deficiencies and suggesting improvements
- Inventories, requests, and investigates alternative cutting tools and shop supplies
- Qualified Candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical schooling a plus
- 5+ years working in machine shop environment with die assembly and installations
- Experience with grinders and other related equipment
- Math skills up to basic trigonometry (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, finding an angle or tangent)
- Mechanical aptitude to understand how processes operate
- Technical skills and experience to solve complex problems and trouble shoot
- Analytical and critical thinking skills to foresee issues with designs or processes and come up with alternate solutions
- Attention to detail to ensure the highest level of precision in finished work
- Time management and having a sense of urgency for the jobs at hand
- Ability to work with others in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
