JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Development Coordinator/Educator is a Registered Nurse that reports directly to the Director of Nursing. The purpose is to assure the delivery of high-level staff development through education and the efficient and accurate tracking of educational needs for all employees. They work in conjunction with administrative staff, certified nursing assistants (CNA) and nurses to meet their appropriate learning needs. This person is responsible for back briefing the CNA Lead on the progress and outcomes as employees’ progress.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Meets on a consistent basis with the Director of Nursing and CNA Lead to determine educational needs based on review of Self-Managed Work Team and Clinical Support Team meetings
- Conducts consistent reviews of the meeting minutes and/or receives a report from the respective coach of the topic area (clinical care, scheduling, housekeeping, etc.)
- Gains a working knowledge of Green House Living policies and procedures, as well as state and federal education requirements for skilled nursing facility personnel
- Reviews and assures personnel compliance with in-service requirements and programs for staff-development
- Assures a program of staff development that supports the highest levels of staff skills and job competencies
- Reviews the meeting minutes of all quality assurance committee meetings and writes QA reports for the purpose of determining necessary education requirements
- Provides reports to the Guide and Director of Nursing regarding quality improvements which integrates education and staff development with clinical and care outcomes
- Writes and analyzes post-tests, evaluations and surveys for education programs as part of QA process to monitor effectiveness of staff development programs and other education needs
- Maintains accurate and comprehensive electronic education records and files
- Explores community resources for educational information and providers for in-services and other staff development programs
- Teaches, facilitates and coordinates in-services and staff development programs, including syllabi production, scheduling and issuing of CEU certificates
- Communicates the commencement of any new monitoring or correctional education in the cottages or initiation of any related conversations
- Continually foster and maintain open communication of progress, obstacles and outcomes for team coordinators, team members and administration
- Review all resident incidents and accidents and the 24-hour report daily to ensure that care plans for assigned residents reflect current and changing needs.
- At patient care conferences, facilitate and coordinates the activities of the disciplines of nursing, rehabilitation, dietary, activities, social services and restorative nursing.
- Participate in facility management meetings as requested.
- Monitors audit clinical record documentation on assigned residents to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Attends in-service training and other educational programs as directed or authorized.
- Performs all job duties to ensure that confidential information and resident rights are always protected.
- Supports quality of care and operational efficiency by maintaining attendance records.
- Perform job duties IAW established safety guidelines, protocols and expectations.
- Reports unsafe conditions and accidents to supervisor or another designated on-duty manager.
- Supports and promotes facility and company standards for superior customer service by exhibiting positive, courteous, and helpful behavior when dealing with all internal and external customers.
- Complies with established standards described in facility policies and procedures, code of conduct, corporate compliance plan, employee handbook and other company documents and publications.
- Functions as a liaison between the Elders, their families, staff and the general public - responding to inquiries and providing information on nursing care and services provided by GHLS.
- Communicates updates on a regular basis to the Clinical Support Team (CST).
- Accompanies physicians and their assistants during their monthly rounds.
- Attends required meetings, including, but not limited to, QAPI, Safety, Infection Prevention, Significant Change, Retention, Business Development, daily nurse’s meeting, administration meeting, All-Call, etc.
- Makes recommendations as to the purchase of medical equipment.
- Assists in preparation of the federally mandated Facility Assessment.
- Stays abreast of changes in regulations and nursing practices, and changes to the long-term care environment.
- Responsible for overseeing and implementing Infection Control.
- Regularly visits each Green House Cottage to monitor clinical cares and the individual status of the Elders.
- Monitors timely compliance of collection and submission of MDS data per organizational policies.
- Works with the CNA Lead and Director of Nursing (DON) to identify areas of quality improvement.
- Attends self-managed work team meetings as necessary to communicate nursing issues/concerns.
- Provides input for team discussion and seeks feedback from the team.
- Upholds the Green House Project values of real home, meaningful lives and empowered staff while simultaneously ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Works cooperatively and communicates effectively with the administrative team and family members to ensure ongoing patient-centered care.
- In the absence of the DON, willing to step in and perform critical functions.
- Must be willing to work on the floor if needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Experience / License and Certifications
- Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse licensure, required.
- Nursing degree, required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree.
- Working knowledge of Point Click Care Charting (PCC) or have the ability and desire to learn the system.
- Possesses a willingness to continually research and gain a working knowledge of skilled nursing care advancements and their educational relevance
- BLS, required.
- Central Registry, required.
- This position requires a minimum of two years in healthcare and one year of upper-level management or leadership experience.
