Job Description
For our EMEA Electrical sector, we are looking for a Research & Development Senior Subject Matter Expert on Medium Voltage standards & applications. Locations: preferably in Hengelo, The Netherlands, but we are open to receive applications from other countries such as: Germany, France, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, United Kingdom, Ireland, and Italy. For candidates who are not located close to our Hengelo site, we can offer fully remote working solutions. Travel rate is up to 10%, in the EMEA region. This role is regarded as the highest level of authority and expertise within our regional organization and reports to the Manager for Medium Voltage Systems, based in The Netherlands. Responsibilities: Serve as a domain expert and leader in research, technology development, and demonstration. Perform as project lead with responsibilities to ensure technical flow, track project milestones, coordinate and mentor project team members. Lead and contribute to value proposition development for technical projects and programs. Lead and contribute to government proposal preparation and project execution. Play a pivotal role in fostering business relationships by presenting ideas and projects, participating in ideation events, acquiring resources and funding. Execute essential functions in cultivating external partnerships and aligning with outside technological advancements. Develop as an industry-recognized subject matter expert through active participation in conferences, seminars, standard bodies, and relevant industrial/academic consortium meetings to drive Eaton’s innovation leadership. Lead and contribute to IP generation through authoring/co-authoring disclosures and patents. Effectively apply appropriate processes, systems, and tools. Mentor junior staff and coordinate with other Eaton divisions. Participate in (inter)national committees like IEC, IEEE, NEN, VDE, SAG1, CIRED etc. Represent the company at international symposia and conferences, giving lectures and writing scientific publications. Qualifications: PhD or Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution. 10 years of progressive experience in researching, developing, and designing technology solutions. Extensive knowledge of distribution grids, electrical infrastructures, and IEC MV assembly products and transformers with its applications and codes and standards. Demonstrated strong experience in one or more of the following areas: power grid protection & control, power grid components, power grid resilience, grid edge control, substation automation, and knowledge of IEC standards. Combined academic and industry expertise in power grid operation, control, modeling, and simulation. Hands-on experience with field or lab testing of Operational Technologies within power distribution grids, including protection relays, grid automation controllers, and systems. Familiarity and experience with corporate research and development workstyle, technical presentation, idea proposing, and project execution. Demonstrated ability to build new research programs by working collaboratively with others across a broad spectrum of disciplines to accomplish strategic goals. Experience in proposal development and government-funded programs (e.g., DoE, DoD, and other governmental agencies). Leadership skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships with customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders. Strong and effective communication skills, fluent in written and oral English; Dutch language is not a must. Readiness to travel up to 10% of working time.
