Location: Remote working (occasional travel to Warwick)
Our client is a leading telecommunications company that specialist in the design, build, operation and maintenance of the UK’s critical digital infrastructure.
Within this contract, you will play a key role in defining, developing and implementing the environment and sustainability approach within their highways business unit, to meet customer expectations, ISO14001 and legal requirements.
Responsibilities:
Support the Head of QS&A to develop the Business Unit environmental and sustainability approach in line with business and customer direction on Environment, Net Zero, Social Value and PAS2080, influencing Senior Management decision making in relation to Business Unit environmental objectives and commitments.
Support Business Unit risk management by defining an appropriate environmental assurance regime including any risk-based audit programme, ensuring effective audit and assurance practices, developing and maintaining effective performance metrics and reporting and review arrangements to meet corporate and contract obligations
By creating strong working relationships with the other Business Unit environmental leads across the business and contributing to Communities of Practice, you will influence and advise on the continual improvement opportunities and development of the Business Unit processes to support the business’ environmental and sustainability objectives
To protect the business by ensuring that regular effective reviews of key Business Unit environmental aspects and impacts are carried out and suitable treatment and response plans established, including the evaluation of climate change risks.
Support the Bid, Design and Operational Teams to ensure that sustainable and carbon reduction practices are embedded at all stages of the Project Life Cycle.
Support the Business Unit in the identification and development of Innovation Project opportunities to support business success both in our operations for sustainable, future and in the design of our customer solutions and services
Support the Head of Quality Services and Assurance to develop the Business Unit environmental and sustainability approach in line with business and customer direction on Environment, Net Zero, Social Value and PAS2080, influencing Senior Management decision making in relation to Business Unit environmental objectives and commitments.
Develop and improve the Business Unit Environmental Management System in line with industry best practice and legislative requirements to support the Business Unit strategies for performance improvement and sustainability and maintenance of our ISO14001 certification.
Define appropriate governance and assurance regimes including any risk-based audit programmes and any appropriate methodologies for effective assurance and performance measurement.
Maintain knowledge and understanding of the UK green agenda, sustainable practices, environmental legislation and client requirements for the industries and environments in which the Business Unit operates
Advise on continual improvement opportunities and the development of Business Unit processes to support Business Unit environmental and sustainability objectives
Define the appropriate levels of environmental competency and develop, advise on and deliver new/future or extended environmental training to support the Business Unit. Develop and deliver timely Toolbox Talks.
Give support and where necessary develop responses for business development and bid activities
Liaise with the customer on all environmental and sustainability commitments, including running the Sustainability Working Group
Liaise with key suppliers on environmental and sustainability commitments and improvements
Ensure sustainability is embedded into the key delivery processes
Qualifications / Skill Requirements:
Degree qualified in related subjects (e.g. environmental management)
Appropriate memberships (e.g PIEMA, working towards MIEMA)
Full driving license
ISO14001:2015 Lead Auditor
Knowledge of the application of environmental standards relating to products, services and buildings (desirable)
Experienced in Carbon Management PAS 2080 (Desirable)
