Commercial Litigation Associate (4-6 PQE)
Job Location
London, United Kingdom
Job Description
Harbottle & Lewis is a leading UK law firm with a strong reputation for providing high quality advice across a variety of sectors, including media, entertainment and technology. We have a long history of acting for an extensive client base of high net worth and high profile individuals and families, including global stars of music, film, TV and sport, and British and international royalty, on a range of private wealth, family, defamation & privacy and business-related matters. We are also known for our strength across multiple corporate, commercial, regulatory and advisory practice areas, acting for clients from startups to global corporations.
We foster a particularly collaborative, entrepreneurial and inclusive work environment and have a culture that is both supportive and friendly. We recognise talent and offer a significant platform for development for those who demonstrate excellence and a hunger to progress.
Role and Responsibilities:
We are looking for a solicitor to join the firm's well-established Commercial Litigation Group. The Group's work encompasses a broad range of litigation for clients from various industries and sectors which include, media, technology, telecoms, private capital, property, financial advisory and investment, entertainment and retail.
The successful candidate is likely to have 4-6 years PQE. They will have strong academics, having received high quality training and experience to date. The successful candidate will have the desire and proven ability to be pro-active and flexible and adapt their skills to work on a very broad range of contentious matters. Strong drafting skills and negotiating experience are essential. Court, arbitration and trial experience will be an advantage.
We are seeking a lawyer who is technically excellent with the ability to deliver advice in a pragmatic and commercial manner. The lawyer must have practical experience of working independently on smaller matters and being part of a team on larger matters; it is therefore key that we find someone who works collaboratively and who is prepared to undertake all aspects of contentious commercial work. The role will involve working directly with partners and also with other lawyers in the Group.
The successful candidate must be able to:
- take responsibility for tasks when appropriate but be able to follow direction competently and efficiently
- think and act independently and pro-actively when required but know when to ask for help and take instructions
- adapt to a wide variety of tasks, depending on the nature of the matter or size of the team, and be willing to get involved with all aspects of a matter (from early pre-action stage up to trial) whether taking instruction from senior lawyers or managing junior lawyers, trainees, and support staff
- work independently under pressure and progress matters without constant supervision
- "pitch in" when working on larger matters and cases
- be confident and sociable when dealing directly with clients, and provide a high level of client service tailored to the particular client's priorities
- take an active role and interest in marketing and business development within the firm and across all the firm's industries.
