Deputy SENCo - Mainstream Secondary School
About Us:
We are working with a mainsteam secondary school in Merton, who are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual to join our dynamic team as a Lead Learning Support Assistant / Deputy SENCo, enhancing the educational experience of our diverse student body.
Purpose of the Role:
In this dual role, you will provide tailored support for students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and those identified as requiring SEN support. Working closely with the SENCo, you will help address individual needs, promote independent learning, and contribute to the overall development of the SEN Department.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide targeted support for students, teachers, and the wider school community to raise achievement standards.
Assist in planning, monitoring, and assessing learning activities, fostering student independence and engagement.
Lead and manage the SEN team, overseeing the work of ELSA-trained staff and the day-to-day operations of the SEN Department.
Act as a named Key Worker for specific students, developing and implementing Student Support Plans (SSPs).
Organise provision for students, including preparation for annual reviews and coordination with external agencies.
Develop tailored learning strategies using specialist knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other SEND.
Foster strong relationships with students, parents, and families to promote engagement and support.
Facilitate after-school support and learning activities.
Implement relevant policies and legislation to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
What We're Looking For:
Proven experience in a learning support role, particularly with students with SEND and ASD.
Strong leadership skills with experience in managing staff and students effectively.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to build productive relationships.
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs and/or learning support (e.g., NVQ Level 3).
A commitment to promoting an inclusive learning environment and supporting all students in their educational journey.
