Job Description

Your role:


As an Army Driver in the Australian Defence Force, you’ll play a pivotal role in the operation and management of sophisticated military vehicles in all conditions, over all kinds of terrain. You’ll be responsible for transporting cargo, personnel and dangerous goods to support training and operations in Australia and overseas.


Your Military duties include, but aren’t limited to:



  • Driving specialist vehicles including G Wagons, Hawkei PMV-L and heavy utility trucks.



  • Driving loaded and unloaded vehicles in varied conditions and on all-terrain

  • Delivering personnel, stores, equipment and Combat Service Support - utilising road, rail, sea and air transportation

  • Camouflaging a vehicle

  • Operating material handling equipment, such as forklifts, winches and cranes

  • Supervising and assisting with loading and unloading of vehicles

  • Conducting non-technical inspections

  • Recovering damaged vehicles using vehicle recovery equipment

  • Operating radio/communications equipment fitted to a vehicle

  • Transporting dangerous goods

Location:


Following your initial military training, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia. Drivers are employed across most Army locations primarily QLD, NSW, SA and the NT.


Salary:


Upon commencing training, your starting salary will be approximately $56,385 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training.


On completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you’ll enjoy a package starting from $76,700 per annum.


As part of your training for this Driver role, you’ll earn qualifications for the operation of certain vehicles.


Eligibility:


For this role, you must:



  • Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF

  • Hold at least a current learners license and have a current provisional/probationary driver’s licence at the time of enlistment

  • Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics

  • Be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details

  • Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare

  • Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
