General Scope: Analyzing blueprints, specifications, material cost information, proposals, and other documentations. The Estimator will collect and analyze data in order to asses the time, material cost, and labor estimates for complex industrial products projects.

Position Summary:

  • Identify factors affecting costs, such as production time, materials, and labor
  • Read blueprints and technical documents in order to prepare estimates
  • Establish or interpret manufacturing job shop routings
  • Collaborate with engineers, supply chain, commercial operations, aftermarket sales and service to establish estimates
  • Calculate, analyze, and adjust estimates
  • Recommend ways to cut costs
  • Work with sales teams to prepare estimates and bids for clients
  • Maintain records of estimated and actual costs by project
  • Other Duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

(The knowledge, skills and attributes required for satisfactory job performance)

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business, engineering or related discipline and two years' bidding/estimating experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience desired.

Knowledge: Incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, be familiar with manufacturing processes and able to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information.

Skills: Incumbent must demonstrate or participate in internal/external training programs to obtain the following skills:

  • Experience with reading drawings, GD&T, Specs, Electrical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic Schematics and Engineering 3D Models
  • MRP/ERP skills understanding of Flatten Bills of Material, Single Level Bills of Material, and Multilevel Bills of Material.
  • Proven record of working effectively in a fast paced, high stress environment with critical deliverables and deadlines while being accurate and thorough.
  • Experience with hydro-technology, mining, machinery and/or similar heavy industrial technology. Preferably in the Rail industry.
  • Manufacturing job shop routings
  • Make vs Buy
  • Strong computer, software knowledge, and analytical skills with great communication and interpersonal skills and effectively working in a team environment with top notch co-workers.
  • Standards vs Actuals and Frozen Standard Costs.
  • Customer supplied material and outside operations

Applicable Technical Competencies: Incumbent must have working knowledge and demonstrated abilities utilizing mechanical knowledge: Specific applications combined with knowledge competencies are as follows: Rating Level: 1-5 (1= minimum 5= Maximum)
