The Knox Co. OA Therapist
Duties:
- Screening and assessment for clients coming into McNabb's outpatient Recovery Hub to determine appropriate level of care and to navigate clients into recommended services for substance use and co-occurring treatment.
- Provision of individual and group therapy for clients enrolled in outpatient services.
JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
Summary of role of team:
- The Knox County Opioid Abatement Therapist will provide MS level clinical services as part of an Assessment and Recovery Services Team, comprised of the therapist, a case manager and a peer support specialist designed to 1.) assess and navigate clients into appropriate treatment services and 2.) provide therapeutic treatment and recovery support to a caseload of clients needing intensive therapy and wrap-around recovery support services care on an outpatient basis.
Summary of position:
- This position will screen and assess referrals into the Center, engage in treatment planning with clients and provide evidence-based therapy services to a caseload of clients shared with a Recovery Case Manager.
- The therapist will serve as a client's primary clinician, providing treatment recommendations and consultation to other division programs, such as MAT, IOP and residential services as clients move throughout the continuum of care.
- Therapist is expected to finish all required documentation on a monthly basis.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
- This position operates in an office setting and involves service provision to clients on an outpatient basis.

1. Provision of Quality Clinical Care.
- Provides assessment, navigation and treatment planning services for clients experiencing substance use and/or co-occurring disorders.
- Creates, coordinates, and executes evidence-based treatment interventions that are reflected in progress note documentation based on the care plan goals.
- Provides individual, family and group therapy services, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Evidences coordination of care for clients with intra/inter-agency programs, referral sources, courts and other stakeholders.
- In absence of case manager, helps facilitate case management between the primary care provider, behavioral health provider, pharmacy, specialists, and/or natural supports regarding health and recovery needs of the client.
- Promotes recovery skills education with the client and/or family.
- Provides crisis intervention and emergency services as needed.
- Attends and is timely to weekly multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Attends and participates in supervision, administrative/ staff team meetings without tardiness.
- Evidences commitment to professional development (via training plan and licensure).
2. Documentation & Administrative Requirements.
- Completes all required clinical documentation, including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans and transition plans, etc. in accordance with Center Policy and Procedure and funding source guidelines.
- Maintains referral log.
- Completes required screens and assessments and enters data into state/federal database and/or EMR.
- Completes and signs EMR progress notes within two business days of encounter.
- Ensures that all clients have an up-to-date ROI, care plan, crisis plan, consent to contact after discharge, DLA-20, and updated consents and signature admissions page every 6 months and/or as needed.
- Presents clinical charts for review in monthly peer reviews for accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Completes monthly reports to ensure productivity and QA/QI goals for the programs are met.
- Completes accurate time sheet prior to deadline each pay period.
3. Team Atmosphere.

COMPENSATION:
- Starting salary for this position is approximately $50,367 /yr based on relevant experience and education.
QUALIFICATIONS - Knox Co. OA Therapist
Education / License:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Psychology, Marriage and Family therapy, Community Agency Counseling, Social Work, or other closely related field of study.
- Extensive knowledge of addiction and general knowledge of mental health and co-occurring disorders are essential.
- Knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and aftercare are also required.
Experience/Knowledge:
- Experience providing evidence-based therapy and trauma-informed services to adults 1:1 and in group setting.
- Experience in the substance use treatment field, as well as experience with medication assisted treatment and treatment of trauma is preferred.
- Applicants may have other counseling skills and/or treatment/recovery environment experience that could accommodate this position.
Physical/Emotional/Social - Skills/Abilities:
- Exposure to biological hazards.
- Hearing of normal and soft tones.
- Close eye work.
- Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping may be required.
- Computer work involving frequent usage of hands, fingers, and wrists.
Equipment/Technical Competency:
- This position requires use of computer and desk phone.
- Common software used include Athena EMR (onsite training), Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel), Adobe.
Schedule:
- Weekday hours, typically Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.
- Hours may be occasionally adjusted to meet the clinical needs of program participants.
- Weekends and holidays off.
Travel:
- This position does not typically require travel or transportation of clients to fulfill job responsibilities.
Equipment/Technology:
- This position does require computer skills for timekeeping, scheduling and use of electronic medical records entry, and familiarity with Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/Outlook).
