The ILS Residential Counselor Team Leader
JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
Summary of role of team:
- The Intensive Long-Term Support Program (ILS) is classified as an "adult supportive residential facility" providing 24-hour residential care incorporating treatment and rehabilitation components.
- Services are provided to include the following: psychiatric services, nursing services, case management services, wrap-around and recovery services, transportation services and personal care services.
- The ILS Program promotes training in community living skills and increased socialization opportunities through the provision of daily leisure and psycho-educational activities.
- The program is staffed with a minimum of one staff member for every eight service recipients 24 hours per day/seven days per week/365 days per year.
- The program provides services to adults who are age 18 or over and have received inpatient psychiatric treatment for a mental illness or co-occurring disorder.
- Service recipients must have been discharged from one of the state RMHI's or one of the state contracted providers (SCP's) of inpatient psychiatric services to uninsured adults.
Summary of position:
- Responsible for implementing the daily routine of the program, which includes: assisting clients in an Intensive Long-Term Support (ILS) level of care through direct monitoring of clients, co-facilitation of educational and activity groups, assistance with activities of daily living, provision of social support, and completion of general tasks related to the maintenance of the environment.
- Must be able to work flexible hours based on the needs of the program.
- Directly supervises all Residential Counselors and ensures an appropriate level of staffing is present at all times.
- Provides on-call services to meet the needs of the milieu.
- Requires a high level of creativity, strong interpersonal and presentation skills, and knowledge of recovery as it applies to the mental health setting.
- Must be able to provide transportation as needed.
- Mandatory to remain awake and alert during shift to monitor client safety.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
- Position is based within the ILS Program, which is an Adult Supportive Residential facility that provides services 24/7.
- The role of the ILS RC Team Leader is to ensure that coverage is provided 24/7 despite any weather conditions that may arise.
- This position requires frequent community involvement and group community outings.

COMPENSATION:
- Starting salary for this position is approximately $19.27 /hr based on relevant experience and education.
QUALIFICATIONS - ILS Residential Counselor Team Leader
Education / License:
- Must have a Bachelor's Level degree or relevant 3 years' experience in a health-related field of counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, or a behavioral science field with course work or experience in the areas of cultural diversity, human development, etiology and treatment of mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse, physical and sexual abuse, suicide, and intellectual disabilities.
- Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, occupational therapy, criminal justice, or education, must have twelve college-level semester hours of coursework in behavioral health.
Experience/Knowledge:
- Minimum3 years' experience in the mental health setting preferred; experience with the SPMI population preferred.
- One-year supervisory experience preferred.
Physical/Emotional/Social - Skills/Abilities:
- Exposure to biological hazards.
- Hearing of normal and soft tones.
- Close eye work.
- Valid driver's license- F endorsement.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs.
- This position requires certification in and adequate implementation of verbal and physical de-escalation techniques that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, going down on knees, running, and walking. (Handle with Care - training provided)
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- CPR and First Aid certification required. (training provided)
- Mandatory to remain awake and alert during shift to monitor client safety.
Equipment/Technical Competency:
- Must be efficient in computer skills. Use of Microsoft Office is required.
- Must be able to use a fax machine and phone system.
Schedule:
- Flexible to meet the needs of 24/7 program.
- Will provide coverage for staff supervised when needed.
- Must be available to be on-call for ILS needs.
Travel:
- This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business.
- Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.
- F Endorsement is required for this position and must be able to operate company owned vehicle as well.
Equipment/Technology:
- Computer skills and ability to utilize company program software to properly document.
- Telephone and faxing skills.
