Job Summary/objective
Electronics Technician –at the U.S. Army Garrison Kwajalein Atoll (USAG-KA) Reagan Test Site (RTS) in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Under the supervision of the Chief Electronics Technician, the employee will be responsible for surveying, maintaining, and repairing a wide variety of scientific instrumentation and communications systems including working with solid-state weather radar. Experience in radar maintenance and repair is critical including weather radars. This position requires relocation to Kwajalein Island. All candidates must be in good physical condition such as to not require routine, extensive medical treatment. Kwajalein Island is considered a remote location, with somewhat limited medical and dental facilities, much like any Small Town USA, but located in the equatorial Pacific. The usual, small-town mix of retail and recreation exists on Kwajalein including stores, theaters, library, a bowling alley, snack bar, and a bar. In addition, the island is equipped to take full advantage of golfing, biking, organized softball and soccer leagues, and superb fishing, diving, sailing, and boating opportunities. The island boasts a yacht club, fishing club, diving club, running club, and rental outlet for boats and equipment. The island population is around 1200 divided near equally between single and family individuals. Kwajalein is considered overseas employment by the IRS, and those employed there receive significant tax benefits. This is an unaccompanied position. Meals and housing are provided to all unaccompanied status employees. Bicycling and walking are the two main modes of transportation.
Qualifications/Education Requirements
- Strong background in electronics: AS/AA or certificate from an accredited college or vocational training program (electronics), or military education desired.
- Training and experience in the use of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power meters, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers for instrument repair and calibration is desirable.
- Knowledge and experience with Doppler weather radars is desirable.
- Background in telemetry, analog, and digital circuitry is desired.
- Experience in Windows and Linux operating systems is highly desirable.
- Experience in surveying, installation, maintenance, and repair of scientific instrumentation, especially weather instrumentation, and communications systems required.
- Experience in Computer Aided Design software is desirable.
- Must be a US citizen.
- A minimum of two years work experience is desired.
- Must have or be able to obtain a secret security clearance.
Essential Functions
- Maintains and repairs a wide variety of scientific instrumentation and communications systems, indoors and outdoors in a remote location.
- Position requires use of a safety harness, for climbing and working at heights.
- Must have the ability to work at a minimum of 20 feet above surface as needed.
Work Environment
- Working in a tropical climate with wet season and dry seasons and little temperature variation between.
- Work performed is both inside and outside.
