Description
The County Administrator Department of Boulder County is seeking to hire a Special Projects Manager. Under the general direction of the County Administrator and reporting to the Assistant County Administrator, The Special Projects Coordinator is a lead/specialist classification. The Special Projects Coordinator provides project management for internal and/or external special projects that impact programs and practices in their assigned departments. This position will support the county's guiding values and strategic priorities, collaborate with county leadership and department staff, provide comprehensive work planning, and manage and report on various analysis, research, studies and process improvements.
This is a newly created position. The ideal candidate will exhibit confidence in establishing and defining this new role and flexibility as the role evolves. The leader in this position will be able to build, maintain and nurture existing and new relationships with departments at all levels and with other agencies and suppliers. This position requires a strategic thinker who is self-directive, collaborative, approachable, responsive, responsible and trustworthy.
This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm, out of 1325 Pearl Street, Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $85,464.00 - $104,292.00 AnnuallyTentative Hiring Timeline:
Boulder County employees may qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Visit for more information.

Examples of Duties
- Leads strategic implementation of assigned projects including data analysis, reporting and communication with internal and/or external stakeholders
- Represents the Office of County Administrator in initiatives, internal and external-facing assigned projects
- Develops and recommends program policies and procedures
- Collaborates with internal and other government agencies on projects or services
- May lead the development of securing funding for special projects as well as manage the budget for assigned projects
- Facilitates group processes to develop and/or implement cross departmental initiatives
- Plans, coordinates, develops, and provides oversight for projects from inception to implementation utilizing county-developed project management tools and reports
- May create strategic action plans and solution focused decision-making models
- Manages special projects that are complex, technical and/or confidential in nature
- Collaborates with others and supports the work and workflow planning for the Office of County administrator and other departments
- Assesses, analyzes, and makes recommendations around department work planning, and process improvements
- Acts as administrative connection point of contact to department administrators and directors
- Develops work plans and methodology to accomplish goals and objectives of the office
- Maintains calendar for and attends senior and executive leadership meetings, documenting discussions and capturing follow-up actions/responsibilities
- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with team members, leadership, and stakeholders
- Plans, coordinates, monitors and reports on special projects as assigned
- May supervise, counsel and evaluate the work of other employees and recommends personnel actions in the areas of hiring, discipline and termination
