The Role
The ABC's Business Affairs team in Content has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Affairs manager to join our team of expert content deal negotiators. As a senior member of the team, the Business Affairs Lead will manage the effective negotiation of the rights and financing associated with the development, production and co-production of commissioned content across all ABC platforms. You will work closely with Content teams and key stakeholders to build and maintain relationships to meet divisional priorities for commissioned and acquired content.
The role will also involve:
Managing the negotiation of commissioned content on behalf of the Content teams, including all deal terms with third parties (excluding budget).
Managing the negotiation and finalisation of all project documentation for commissioned content in accordance with the commissioning process and all relevant ABC policies and standards.
Drafting, negotiating and finalising development agreements, talent agreements, music agreements and commissioned content production deal terms and long form contracts as required.
Providing strategic advice and policy updates to ABC stakeholders in Content and other teams on commercial aspects of deal terms and management of risk.
Supervising and managing team members as required.
Oversee or undertake accurate data entry of rights into the ABC’s rights management systems as required.

About You
We are looking for an experienced business affairs negotiator with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to foster internal and external stakeholder relationships. You will have excellent commercial negotiation skills and the ability to exercise independent judgement.
You are adept at leading commercial negotiations at a senior level, driving project outcomes and providing strategic advice. You will have proven experience managing deals relating to the development, financing, production and acquisition of television programs, and the ability to advise on underlying rights and distribution agreements, with experience in negotiations for scripted content preferred.
You have what it takes to lead on issues relating to the commissioned content genres assigned to you, including risk, industry policy and rights strategy, with a strong understanding of the competitive environment for content. You will have the skills to provide supervision to other team members and to contribute to the strategic direction of the team, as well as the ability to perform well under pressure to achieve agreed outcomes within the specified timelines.
You will also have:
Appropriate tertiary education, law degree essential.
Significant experience in drafting deal terms and long form documentation required.
Proven experience in contract management and an understanding of rights management, preferably within a business affairs department.
Strong understanding of the television, streaming and broadcasting industry and the commercial and risk issues associated with commissioning and acquiring television programs.
