About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to join the Thiess Technical team at Pembroke Resource’s Olive Downs Complex.
Pembroke Resource’s Olive Downs Complex is a greenfield project located 40 kilometres south-east of Moranbah which commenced mining operations in mid-2023. Thiess has been awarded a five-year contract to deliver full service mining operations, including mine planning overburden removal, drill and blast, load and haul (autonomous), water management and rehabilitation as well as construction of the mine infrastructure.
Working a 5/2/4/3 roster and reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will be required to:
- Update and maintain the structural and Run-Of-Mine models
- Perform block-by-block and periodic coal recovery and dilution reconciliations.
- Update and maintain the project Coal Quality Management Plan (CQMP)
- Promote and monitor compliance with the CQMP and communicate compliance to project leadership as required
- Monitor planned vs actual CHPP feed quality
- Oversee the management of Run-Of-Mine and in-pit coal stockpiles
- Update and maintain the project Geotechnical Principal Hazard Management Plan (GPHMP).
- Monitor compliance with the GPHMP and Geotechnical Design Guidelines and communicate with project leadership as required
- Update and maintain the site geotechnical database and model
- Oversee the management of geotechnical hazards on site
- Direct report of 2x Mine Geologists, working an 8:6 roster, managing coal quality and geotechnical hazards on a day-to-day basis
About You
You are a high-achieving and focused Senior Geologist with extensive experience in a similar role. You are committed to driving a high-performing and inclusive team.
- A tertiary qualification in Geology
- Significant experience, in the coal industry preferred, but not essential
- Expertise in using Geological block modelling software (Vulcan)
- In-depth knowledge of Geological practices in the coal mining industry
- An understanding of mining loss and dilution parameters, coal recovery, and reconciliation
- An understanding of open-cut mining methodology
- Geotechnical experience considered beneficial
- Strong planning and problem-solving skills
- A high level of strategic thinking
- Self-driven individual with strong leadership and talent development skills
